"I cannot be certain, Erik. Young master Davian has no classes on weekends, and I may need to stay in the mansion the whole day. But thank you for the invitation. I appreciate it."
The hope in the man's eyes dimmed, but he smiled and told Sienna that it was okay. She sighed in relief, saying that she would accept his invitation if there was an opportunity next time. However, she only said it out of courtesy. As much as she wanted friends, she didn't want to pull people into her complicated life.
As night fell in the town of Darthmore, the duke's carriage entered the gates, and the butler waited for his master's arrival by the door of the mansion.
"Good evening, Master Lemiel," Clark bowed deeply and helped the duke take off his overcoat.
"Has Caius returned?"
Lemiel walked to the stairs and the butler followed, waiting for instructions and questions. The duke usually asked about the happenings in the mansion after his day at work.
