Chapter 28: Black-and-white

Everything around us blurred and it was like time had stopped.

"You knew William?" I asked Amy.

As far as I knew, William didn't have many friends. He usually preferred to stick to himself and focused more on work than a social life.

Amy's cheeks turned the color of a ripe peach. "I wouldn't say that we were friends or anything... I just worked on his team for a while when I was a rookie."

The look on her face. The sadness in her eyes, like she was mourning his death.

"You liked him," I concluded.

My observation made her cover her face with her hands. "I had a little crush on him, yes."

Little crush my foot.

Amy sighed. "I never stood a chance though. Nor will I ever stand a chance now that he's gone." She looked mortified. Torn apart.
