Chapter 31: Falling

"You're gonna act like you're married?" Nick asked in disbelief. He was holding a yellow sweater and a pair of white skinny jeans in his hands - the clothes he promised to bring me so I could change out of my wet ones.

"It's the only way that I can convince Elizabeth to tell me her father's whereabouts," I explained. 

"Dude, you don't have to look so f*cking heartbroken. It's just an act," Damian said with a laugh. 

Nick handed me the clothes, looking kind of sad. "Is there no other way?"

Now I actually felt guilty for letting my heart get a bit excited over acting like a married couple with Danté. Seeing Nick look so deflated and heartbroken, like a golden retriever seeing his owner leave for work, I wondered how much this was truly going to hurt him, even if it was an act.

I wondered how much the whole ordeal was going to hurt me.
