Runaway!

Amira came down the stairs in slow steady steps, she was careful not to trip after what she had heard, her thoughts couldn't process why the Alpha King had killed him.

"He's waiting for you at the dinner area." A maid said to her, she was standing at the bottom of the stairs with her head tilted downward.

Amira felt it was awkward that the maid was bowing to her, so she did the same thing and lowered her head for the maid. The maid surprised by her gesture quickly lifted her head.

"I don't know where the dining area is..." Amira mumbled politely.

"I will take you there." The maid offered, Amira smiled at her and followed her lead, they headed for the main floor, walked past the kitchen, and came across another room that was close to the kitchen. The maid bowed and didn't step further.

Jaziel was seated at the head of the dining table, and she moved to him, standing at the empty chair to his right, she was uncertain if she was to sit or wait for a signal from him.

His face was narrowed, and his looks were quite sensual like an angel of death. That was the exact look Amira thought he gave her and she remained rooted.

Amira took a moment and gawped at the dining room, there was a wall of the fireplace, a three-story ceiling, and a gargantuan chandelier.

She thought it was a complete waste of space, the table was quite huge, and long to the end of the room, and about twenty persons could sit on it, and now it was just her and the King that was there.

"Sit." He said without staring at her.

She didn't know if she should sit beside him or move to the other end of the table. She didn't wait for him to say another word, she hurried to the end of the table and sat down.

Jaziel glanced up from his meal and watched her, his lips parted, he wanted to say a word but restrained himself and stared down at his meal.

"Serve her." His cold voice made Amira feel a rush of chills where she sat, she had never heard a voice so cold and heartless before.

Her stepmom was cold to her but she couldn't compare it to the King.

She stole glances at him over the table and watched him eat, she could tell from the fresh smell that the meat he was eating wasn't cooked.

Her throat rolled as she swallowed nothing but fear.

"What do you want to eat?" The servant asked. Amira looked at her, and then at the King. She would eat anything except what the King was eating.

"A toast." She muttered quietly as if afraid to be heard, she caught the King's gaze on her face, and he snorted and drifted his gaze to the servant. "Bring the food." That was all they said, the servant retreated into the kitchen and came out to fill up the table with different meals she had never seen or tasted in her eighteen years of life.

"Eat." He ordered.

Amira picked up her fork and began to eat from the table, taking the ones she could into her plate, and eating from the other plates on the table.

A bottle of wine was brought to the table and served.

He didn't say a word nor did he offer her a glass of wine, he wiped his mouth when he was done eating, and pushed the chair backward.

Amira sheered the awful thoughts from her head, but she couldn't help but wonder if the meal the King ate was from the wolf he killed, his loyal servant, Jenkins.

He caught her watching him, and an amusing grin spread out on his face. "I got you something." He muttered and then smirked.

He picked up something from the seat beside him and stood up, he made his way to her.

She couldn't control the beat of her heart with every step that he took, her chest rose and fell. She found it difficult to keep breathing, and then he stopped when he was just a few feet away from her. He placed the small parcel on the table and went down on one knee, he opened the parcel and brought out a pair of shoes.

"It's the only pair you'll find in the entire universe."

She could tell he was making a boost of it. "Because I had it designed myself, and let's see if it fits." He took off the flat shoes she was wearing, and put on the shoes he held on his hand, it was a flat shoe but it had a floral design on it and one of the finest materials and it fit her so perfectly. "It's a gift." He smirked and put her feet on the other shoe.

It felt was soft and comfortable on her feet. The longest she had stared at him was this moment, his hands on her feet were gentle and tingling.

"It won't fit anyone else it has fit you. Nobody in the whole werewolf empire could put on these shoes except you." His voice wasn't cold but mid.

"I don't think I deserve to receive such a gift from you, Alpha King." She lowered her head.

"I kept you in prison, it was wrong of me."

"You were never wrong, it was my fault. I should have been more careful before I approached you. I shouldn't known that no one else could prepare your meal." She kept a calm voice as she spoke.

He lifted a finger to her chin and tilted her head upward to meet his soft gaze. "I can permit you to..."

She looked surprised, and couldn't understand what he meant. "My breakfast is by seven, I hate eggs, serve me meat."

She chuckled and nodded curtly.

He straightened himself to his feet and stared at the shoes on her feet. It was beautifully made for her.

"Eat more, I want you to gain more weight before..." He cleared his throat. "Before the mating ceremony."

"I heard it was your birthday recently, Happy Birthday, consider it as your birthday present."

He turned his back and strolled out of the dining room as if he hadn't said anything.

Amira stared at her feet, this was the kindest gesture she had ever received. Her birthday was never celebrated, neither has she been wished a happy birthday by anyone or received a present.

She has always been lonely.

She felt her cheek wet, she didn't realize when the tears had rolled down from her eyes.

She was heading back to her room when she heard the head servant's voice in the hallway.

"...does she know?"

"She doesn't." She recognized the voice as that of the head servant, and whoever she was talking with, Amira had no idea.

"He wanted to use her against the elders, he's doing all of these to entice her and then he will end her life just like Jenkins." The head servant said in a hushed voice.

Amira gasped and quickly placed a hand over her mouth.

"Are you sure Rosa?" The other lady asked the head servant.

"I heard it from the King's guard." Rosa, a chubby woman with blonde hair replied with a snort.

Amira's back hits the wall, and her hands are clasped over her mouth.

"Do you mean the Alpha King will kill her?"

"Yes." Rosa, the head servant confirmed. Another loud gasp escaped her mouth, and the ladies knew someone had heard them.

Amira turned, running to the stairs, her gown was lifted in her hand in a tight fist.

Jaziel was standing at the top of the stairs heading towards his room and saw Amira running from the other side of the stairs. He could see the tears blinding her sight. His hand gripped the railings.

"Amira!" He shouted from the stairs, she looked, he saw a flash of terror in her eyes, frightened and shock that he had called her name. A tear escaped her eye and ran down her cheek, distracted by the King's voice, she tripped over a few stairs.

Jaziel realized she was running away from him.

"Get her!" He yelled at the servants who were still unsure of what to do.

Amira picked herself up, one of the shoes had slipped off her feet. She wanted to go back and pick it but she saw the servant coming after her, she took to her heels.

The affections she had seen in his eyes, it was never genuine after all.
