From the living room, she heard the low sounds of Jiro’s enchanting voice and Barrett’s strong voice. After a quick, efficient stop in the bathroom, taking a bit longer to smell the hand-milled lavender soap, she joined Jiro and Barrett in the living room.


She smiled, closing her hands around the cup of tea Jiro offered. He’d drunk nothing but her favorite tea on the trip and claimed to enjoy it. The warm liquid tasted especially good that morning. Over the rim of her cup, Barrett peered at her with a serious expression. “Good morning, Luna.”


She took another sip. “He disappeared again, didn’t he? His master must be hiding him with magic.” Her mouth twisted in disgust.


Barrett scowled. “I’ve alerted all gammas and guards and sentries throughout the territory.”
