27: Gifts and Bittersweet Memories

Garnet POV

She knew the truth when Jiro spoke it.

She trusted him. He was, despite being in the intelligence trade, the most honest person she knew. Kind, but not given to sugarcoating the truth as he saw it, and he called it like he saw it. He was brutally honest with himself and about himself for the most part.

She twined her arms around his neck and looked up into his aquamarine eyes, which were solemn and stern. “You didn’t see me giving in when we fought him before.”

“No. Keep that up. Because it’s only going to get worse from here. I hope he’s figured out that he can’t control your every move anymore, that you won’t excuse his behavior. Although he’s delusional, so all bets are off. But this isn’t just a case of tracking mud in the house and you cleaning up after him before your parents find out–”

Her eyes widened. “How did you know that?”

“Have you met my brothers?”
