Dane POV
Exiling criminals.
His second little brother, the bookish one, had done what he never had to and wasn’t sure he could do if it came down to it. It felt so … final. Even if Jiro allowed them back in, a colossal IF, the mark of banishment would remain.
He couldn’t disagree with what Jiro had done, and even better, recalling his assertion to Jiro that his brother would surpass him as a leader, he wanted to say, “I told you so.” Because that move was a master stroke.
He would struggle with exiling any Evenhide Pack wolf. He would do it in the end, but he would feel a part of him being ripped away too, no matter what his shifters had done. He knew his little brother felt the same, but he’d still thought of the pack as a whole.
When he’d reached out through the mind-link, he felt a wave of dizziness and exhaustion. Let Jiro and his mate rest. They’d earned it.
