The mercenaries

The old man kept shouting demon, demon soon the villagers started to come out of the house most of them looking to grab anything that could be used as a weapon, but the thing that surprised Jay was, that the people that came out of the house were mostly women and old people, there were only two young men, one the young man had normal build he was holding the bow and arrows in hand and the other young man had a large build he had a long sword in his hand, both of them looked like they were in their late twenties, they were the one who was leading the rest of the villagers they had their weapons jointed at Jay. There were barely twenty people in the village.

{Me :- What the fuck is going on?}

{Minerva :- People of the village seem to be hostile toward you, master.}

{Translating....}

{Look how ominous his surroundings are. (murmuring) (murmuring)}

{Why does our village have to grow through all this?}

People of the village started to get closer murmuring among themselves and whispering to each other. Suddenly a loud shout came from behind

{"What the fuck is this! I guess the time we had given you to make choices was all for waste, you guys really don't care about the hostages, huh."}

A group of seven men wearing camouflage uniforms entered the village and stood at the entry of the village, some distance from Jay. All of them were equipped with weapons like swords, spears, and shields and one of them was also holding a staff that had a crystal ball on top. One of the young men with the large build from the village paced a few steps forward and shouted in retaliation.

{"Bastard! You think keeping young men of our village as hostage will make us kneel to you"}

Hearing this made people in the uniforms frustrated, the man standing in the middle smirked and said.

{"If you haven't found the book then look for it there is no other way, and for the delay you have caused in surveying the forest, just give us some young women to keep us from being lonely in this forest."}

Hearing this remark people of the village became more panicked but none of them stepped back, all of them started shouting together

{"If you touch anyone of us. we will kill you all."}

{"Get out of our village now."}

Slowly step by step, they gathered courage and started moving forward pointing their weapons at the mercenaries, when Jay felt the villager's attention slipping from him, he started to move away from the middle to the side, but one of the mercenaries noticed him and said.

{"Hey you, you are not from here all the men from this village have been taken to the site for labor. Who are you?"}

Jay stopped moving, he had his head down thinking about what should he say, if he knew that this village was in this kind of conflict he wouldn't have come here, turning at the mercenaries Jay said.

{"I am just an average person, I had an accident a few days back and got lost in the forest, I finally noticed smoke coming from the mountain and came to seek help that's all. "}

One of the mercenaries pointed his sword at Jay and started moving toward him.

{"You think we are stupid, no average person can survive in this forest especially this deep you are also an awakener, aren't you? What rank are you? All of us are at C rank, you can come with us if you want, our captain is A rank person, he can definitely help you in many ways."}

Jay knew that it would not be safe for him to be with these kinds of people. It was best for him to get out of the village.

Jay turned around and started to move toward the entry of the village where mercenaries were standing, right when he was about to cross them one of the mercenaries blocked his way with his spear. He had a bald head and a big build, with an arrogant smile he said.

{"I think you misunderstood, it would have been better if you would have accepted our invitation, but we don't mind killing one or two more people in the name of cleaning witness."}

He then pulled his spear back and hit Jay's stomach, aagh... pushing him again in the middle of villagers and them. Jay grabbed his stomach hard crouching on the ground, he was panting for breath. The mercenaries started moving in confidence toward them.

Jay stood above the head of the mercenaries and bent his knees to grab the hair of one of the mercenaries, he pulled his head up, making him look directly into his eyes, and said.

The guy with the spear said in a trembling voice.

The pressure that was pushing the mercenaries down went away in the next moment. Jay stood straight turning toward the village he said.

The mercenaries stood up stumbling on each other bowed to Jay and ran away. As soon as the mercenaries left the village, Jay turned around and started to leave the village.

When Jay turned back to look who called he was stunned to see all the villagers kneeling, touching their heads to the ground. Jay panicked seeing this he was about to say "Aahh.."

{"Please forgive us for treating you the way we did earlier, we mistook you for those men that came just now."}

Hearing the apology from them was enough for him to let go of his anger.

{"Please stand up, it is nothing"}

Saying that Jay tried to make villagers stand on their feet. Jay helped a few elderly to stand. The two young men from the village came close to greet Jay, the guy with the large build introduced by saying.

{"Hello my name is Lia Shao and this is my friend Jin Hao. We are really sorry we treated you that way."}

Jay said waving his hand.

{"It's alright. I understand things are not normal in this village right now. By the way what kind of book are they looking, for them to go this far."}

Shaking their head both Lia Shao and Jin Hao said
