Chapter 3 - A New Home for Hachi

Third person POV

A minute has passed, and Hachi removed his fangs from Akira's shoulder because he was now satisfied. He then wiped the blood with his arm. Akira then opened his eyes, seeing Hachi's red eyes.

"You're good now?" he asked him.

 "Y-Yes," Hachi answered back. "Thanks."

Miki then ran to her older brother. "Big brother! Are you okay?"

Getting up, Akira holds the pain on his shoulder. "Yeah, it hurts a bit."

He then saw blood on his t-shirt, but he was unfazed by it.

The reason why is that he had seen blood before through movies stored in cassette tapes.

Despite being in the future, most of the media are stored in cassette and VHS tapes for storage and archiving only since they last longer than disks.

But it was only for forms of media whose creators had passed away either a long time ago or recently.

After that, Akira looked at Hachi. "So, are you lost?"

"No, I'm homeless," Hachi answered back.

 "I see. Where's your parents?"

"I don't have any. They died."

This answer causes the two siblings to feel sorry for him.

 "Oh, okay then."

 "We're sorry for you."

"Yeah, they died in a car accident," Hachi explained.

"Okay, so, what are you doing out here?" Akira asked.

"I was thrown out by an evil corporation."

 "What?" Akira responded with shock.

He then thought, "Is this for real?"

"I was a failed human experiment," Hachi explained further. "I became a half-vampire, half-zombie hybrid."

Hearing that, Akira figured out the fangs on Hachi's teeth.

So, he responded, "Oh, I saw your fangs. That's why."

"Yes, and I haven't eaten for days," Hachi replied. "Sorry for drinking your blood."

"It's okay, it didn't matter. It's better for me to sacrifice than to do nothing at all."

 "I see."

Later, they all walked back to the village. Along the way, Akira suggested to Hachi to live at his home instead of an orphanage.

"What? Are you sure?" Hachi asked with doubts. "Are your parents okay with that?"

"I'll ask them about that once we get home," Akira assured.

Not long after, they arrived at home.

 "We're home," Akira greeted.

But, his parents came rushing towards them.

"Akira! Miki! Thank goodness you two are safe."

 "Where have you been?"

"Sorry for being a bit late, mom and dad," Miki responded.

"There's someone who has no place to go," Akira added.

"Huh? Really?" their mother, Kae, asked.

She and Ian then looked at Hachi and his looks.

"Are you homeless, my dear?" Kae asked him.

Hachi then nodded. "Yes. I have no parents."

 "Where are they?" Ian asked.

 "Dead."

At this point, Akira and Miki's parents are very sympathetic to him and decided not to report him to the police. Not long after, they took him in as a new part of their family literally without signing any adoption papers.

In the living room, Kae gave Hachi some food and a glass of water so he would replenish his energy. Hachi then quickly accepted it because he was desperate. And while Hachi was munching on the rice balls and sushi, Akira and Miki revealed to his parents about Hachi's current state and past. Their parents are very surprised, but quickly accepted it as reality without any hesitation. After that, Kae and Ian looked at Hachi, who had just finished his meal, and said, "Don't worry, we'll protect you no matter what."

"R-Really?" Hachi replied back while looking at them.

Kae then nodded to say yes, willingly to sacrifice her family's dignity and reputation for his sake.

Now seeing that someone is now caring for him, Hachi felt in happy emotion and bowed his head deeply for a few seconds. "Thank you so much."

Akira then responded positively, "Yeah, you're welcome."

"Welcome to our family," Ian added.

At that point, Hachi didn't understand Ian's values on family yet.

And now, he is a part of the Satoshi-Cruz family.
