She was crying

She was trying to keep a calm face but I could tell that she was gradually losing her patience. I was still studying her when I heard Grandpa speak again.

"We have all heard what you have to say Mr Blake and I as his grandfather..."

Grandpa said but then, kept quiet for a while before he continued.

"Object".

He said, not looking at anyone in particular.

"I do not agree to my grandson getting married to your daughter. I already like my granddaughter-in-law. And what was it you said"?

He asked as though he was trying to remember something.

"Aha, power, status, connection"?

He waved his hand away as though all that meant nothing to him.

"I..."

He said hitting his hand on his chest gently".

"... will give all that to her. As long as she is the one he wants, I... His grandfather... will give her everything".

He said in finality.

"Grandfather"?

We finally heard Melissa speak. Grandpa looked at her, waiting for her to continue.

"Why are you not giving me a chance as you are giving her"?

She asked in a calm voice, it almost looked like she wanted to cry.

"I'm not here for nothing, I'm here because I actually love Jason, and I want to be with him".

Now, she actually wanted to cry.

"I know for a fact, that if given a chance, I could make him feel the same way".

She said and then took her hanky to clean her eyes gently.

"You talked your father into this, didn't you"?

Grandpa asked and she suddenly couldn't move the hanky that was placed below her eyes. It was obviously true that she talked him into it.

"It's a pity, that a man of such great status, stooped so low to literally beg for his daughter to marry a man who doesn't want her".

Mr Blake felt like he got a slap on the face. He felt humiliated, most especially because what Grandpa O'Brien said was true. He had told Melissa that he didn't want to come, but she insisted and even threatened him, telling him that if he didn't help her get Jason, she would kill herself.

Grandpa looked like he was beginning to get angry.

"Grandpa, I only did this because of how much I love Jason".

"What is his best color"?

Grandpa asked but since she didn't answer, he asked her something else.

"Or better still, what is his best friend's name"?

He couldn't answer and deep down, I was hoping he wouldn't ask me because truthfully, I didn't really know the answers. I could only guess.

"Nadia darling"?

Grandpa called and I turned immediately to look at him.

"Yes, grandpa".

I answered.

"Do you know who his best friend is"?

He asked and then, I turned to look at Melissa, I could tell by the one-sided smirk on her face, that she was hoping I'd also not be able to answer.

I then looked at Derrick and it looked like he was hoping I'd get it. Surprisingly, Kay also looked like he hoped I'd get it.

I then heard Grandpa speak again.

"You don't know who..."

I didn't let him finish as I spoke.

"Mr. Derrick and Kay".

Grandpa sat back and with a faint smile, he asked another question.

"Why would you say it is his brother and son"?

He asked

"Uhm well, it's because he is never free, happy, or lightened up with anyone else aside from these two. He may not show it, but I know they are the closest to him".

I thought I was wrong so I looked at Derrick but he didn't give me any positive look and then, I looked at Mrs O'Brien and she looked back smiling.

We then heard Grandpa O'Brien speak again.

"At this old age, power, money, status, connection? Of course, I want all of that. Although I already have more than enough, I would not mind having much more. But right now... the most important thing to me, is my grandson's happiness".

He then looked at me and looked at Jason.

"It has been a while since I last saw Jason this happy and alive, and for that, I am more than grateful to this girl who you claim has nothing to offer".

With that being said, he stood up, making everyone else stand up immediately after him.

"This conversation... is over".

After saying that, he walked away. Anita smiled and walked out and her family followed suit. I wanted to talk to Anita because, for some reason, it seemed like she was happy any time things went in my favor.

I went out to see her, only to see that her father slapped her and was yelling at her. He was so loud that I could hear what he was saying from a mile away.

I didn't even notice but apparently, Grandpa O'Brien was right behind me.

"Go ahead and invite her for dinner".

I exclaimed and turned around as I wasn't expecting him to be behind me.

"Grandpa".

I said but he simply spoke again.

"Go and tell the younger sister to come in for dinner".

He then began walking away but as he did, he said something else which I heard.

"She is obviously not welcome in her own home".

I turned and noticed that both her dad and Melissa had walked away while she just had her head bent with her hair covering her face.

"Hi".

I said when I got to her. She raised her head and looked at me. She didn't look so pleased to see me so she rolled her eyes and began walking away.

"Wait!! I'm talking to you!!"

I said as she was walking pretty fast. I rushed after her and grabbed her by the hand. She turned and yelled.

"What!!!"?

And that was when I noticed that she was crying.

"What do you want"?

Her voice cracked as she asked. I didn't know if she'd agree or not but I just said it anyways.

"Have dinner with us
