You have nothing on them

Melissa could not hide how pissed she was at the moment. Just when she felt she was at least a step forward, Nadia had to take her back to square one.

Her good deed was already raising the stakes at all the O'Brien's company. That was something she could not easily do and it was getting on her nerves.

She put on her towel and walked out of the bathroom. She dialed a number and soon, the person on the other side of the phone picked up.

"Hello reporter Kim, it's been a while".

"Hello Miss Blake, to what do I owe the honor of this call"?

The reporter she called answered.

"Well, I noticed many reporters are so fixed on one story".

She said but got no response. She knew the reporter already knew where she was coming from.

"Can you change the story a little".

The reporter was silent for a while before he spoke again.

"By chance, what do you mean"?

Melissa smiled mysteriously and soon enough, a different article had been posted online.

"COULD THE O'BRIEN'S HAVE TRICKED EVERYBODY"?

That was what the title of the new article said. Luckily, Jason was the first to see it in the family and he immediately called someone to trace the source and when he finally found it, he called the reporter himself.

"Waa!! I must have done something great in my past life, so many important people are calling me today".

That reporter does not know how lucky he is to be far away right now.

"Why did you write such an article"?

Jason asked calmly but it seemed the reporter was trying to get on his nerves.

"Why? Did it trigger something"?

The reporter asked obnoxiously. It was almost like he was trying to start something.

"Delete it".

Jason said but he heard the reporter smirk on the other side of the phone. If only he knew that was the only opportunity he would be getting.

The reporter had gone out to get coffee. When he got back to the office, his boss who had commended him for writing such a wonderful article since he felt he had solid proof was now fuming.

"Who was it? Who wrote this crap"?

The boss was asking as reporter Kim walked in.

He looked surprised to see that everyone was looking at him. He wondered what was going on and it didn't take long for him to find out.

"Reporter Kim!!"

His boss yelled and started pointing at him.

"You... you are the one who wrote this".

He said as he walked closer to him.

"What did you say? She was putting on a show"?

He asked angrily.

"She was hanging from a fucking roof!!!"

He yelled at how stupid he felt this entire situation was. Actually, the boss didn't really care about the article reporter Kim wrote because it got a lot of attention in just a few minutes but now that everything had backfired, he was not ready to go down with him.

"Who was it? Huh! Who gave you such a baseless Intel"?

He asked but Mr Kim didn't even know what to say.

"Sir"?

A young lady who was also a staff called for the boss's attention.

"What!!"

He asked

"I think you need to see this".

She said calmly but nervously as she kept looking at her laptop. The boss rushed to see what she was talking about and reporter Kim followed suit.

"TK REPORTS WAS BRIBED".

That was the new headline that was trending online. A part of the article said.

"The news house was bribed to bring down the O'Brien's. The reporter in charge has already proven that he got his information through an unprofessional source".

Some comments also said things like.

"I knew it, TK REPORTS is getting worse".

"I mean, how can they say someone hanging on a rooftop was all a show"?

"Waw... I almost fell for it because of how well he wrote his lies".

There were so many comments and reporter Kim knew he was doomed.

He rushed out and called Melissa.

"I thought you said you were there when all of this happened!!"

He yelled and Melissa took the phone a bit far from her ear.

"Why are you barking"?

Melissa said so calmly it felt like nothing was happening.

"What... what did you just say"?

He asked shocked as he was not expecting her to say that.

"I mean, I only gave you the information. I never forced you to write it. Neither did I force you to collect the money".

She said.

"You... you... you..."

He was still talking when he heard the line disconnect.

"Hello? Hello? Aish!!! This f*cking b*tch".

She said in anger. It was obvious that she was going to leave him to dry on his own and he couldn't say anything to implicate her since he wasn't completely clean either.

He went back inside and saw his boss sitting on his desk. He didn't understand why the boss would be sitting at his desk instead of going to his own office.

"Ahh, you are back".

The boss said and stood up.

"You should just pack your things. Mnn, that's the only way we can solve this issue".

Reporter Kim knew he would get punished but fired? He was not expecting that at all.

"Reporter Sara"?

The boss turned and looked at a female reporter.

"Yes"?

She responded.

"I need you to write an apology statement, let them know that we have rectified our mistake and the person who made the mistake has been fired".

He said and reporter Sara looked at reporter Kim for a while before responding.

"Yes sir".

She then sat back down and began writing down what she would release. Not many people were sad about reporter Kim's dismissal. He has always been an annoying person so most people were happy to see him leave.

"You can't do this to me, not after everything I've done for this place".

He said, following his boss behind.

"And what exactly have you done"?

The boss turned and looked at him.

"Listen to me, let this be a lesson to you, you don't mess with the O'Brien's and get away with it... not even when you have something on them... you stupidly went for them when you had nothing on them".
