"I guess young Miss Anita finally wants to be free".
The butler said, making the prime minister look at him weirdly.
"What is that supposed to mean"?
He asked as he went back into the car.
"My apologies, I believe I spoke out of place".
The old butler said but the prime minister wasn't ready to let it go.
"No, you meant something. I want to know what your statement meant".
He countered the old man, leaving him with no choice but to explain himself.
"Well, I spent a lot of time with the young miss when she was still at home".
He paused, wondering if his next statement would be appropriate. But then, he said it anyway.
"She often said she wanted to be free... from you".
He said and looking at the rearview mirror, he could see that the prime minister was looking at him.
Soon enough, Mr Blake took out his phone and dialed a number. When the person on the other side picked, the prime minister said.
"Find Anita, I want to know where she is staying".
He said and the call got disconnected. Keeping his phone on the car seat, he turned to look out the window.
He might not show it much, but knowing his daughter wanted to leave home because of him, made him feel like he failed her.
He began to think about what his wife had said.
"You've never given her the opportunity to explain herself!!"
"We've always been on Melissa's side, at least this once, let's hear her out".
He heaved out a huge sigh and hoped that he wasn't too late.
Anita ran all the way back to the hotel. When she finally arrived, she was out of breath without looking, she incidentally bumped into someone.
"Ahh, I'm so sorry".
She said as she raised her head to see who this tall and well-built man was. When she saw who it was, her eyes opened wide as she was not expecting it to be this man.
"You..."
She said pointing at the man who was standing in front of her. He simply bowed and walked past her.
It was Miguel, Jason's bodyguard. He was not as aloof as his boss but he wasn't much different.
Anita soon came back to her senses and rushed after the man who had just entered the elevator.
She was fortunate to catch up to the elevator before it closed. She then entered and tried to catch her breath.
The man kept looking forward as though there was no other person in the elevator with him. Anita could not stop looking at him. She wanted to say something to him but she remembered that the last time they met, their conversation did not really sound rosy.
"Do you know who I am"?
What she said back then kept ringing in her head and she closed her eyes thinking about how stupid she was to brag about something like that.
'Why did I have to sound like that? Aishh!! I sounded like a loser'.
She said in her mind. Unknown to her, Miguel has been observing her from the very beginning.
When she got into the elevator, he was looking at her from the mirror-like door of the elevator.
He noticed that she kept looking at him and he knew she wanted to say something. When he saw her closing her eyes as though she was guilty of something, he turned to speak to her but then, the door of the elevator opened.
Without saying a word, he looked at the tiny figure next to him for the last time and walked out.
"Wait!!"
She yelled, making him turn. She smiled nervously and said.
"I'm sorry".
She said but he only looked at her with no expression on his face. The elevator doors were closing but they were both still looking at each other.
When the doors finally closed, Anita held onto the rails in the elevator.
"Dang, he is handsome".
She said but immediately shook the thoughts out of her head.
A few days went by and it was finally time for me to leave Grandpa's place and go back to Jason's place.
My cast was off and I was not feeling any more pain. I decided to see the doctor before going back.
"Doctor Vee"?
A nurse called and the doctor raised her head from her desk to see who was calling.
"Someone is here to see you".
The nurse said.
"You know I'm not taking any patients for now".
Doctor Vee said and went back to the documents she was working on but the nurse countered.
"Uhm... she is not a patient".
The doctor raised her head again.
I walked in and the doctor immediately stood up.
"You..."
She said in shock but I simply smiled.
"Can I sit"?
I asked and she pointed to a chair.
"Please".
She said as she pointed to the chair.
"I looked for you a lot that day but you had left. It was after you left that I saw the articles".
She said keenly.
"Sorry I left without a word, I was keeping someone waiting".
I said and she nodded showing that she understood.
"How is your daughter"?
I asked and she smiled.
"She is much better. Do you want to see her? She's been meaning to meet you".
She said and I did not refuse. We went to the room where her daughter was kept I looked at the girl who was sitting on the bed and chatting with a little girl.
"Nikki"?
Her mom called and she turned to look at us. She had a beautiful smile, it was almost contagious.
"Mom!!"
She yelled and jumped down from the bed and ran to hug her mom.
"What is this? You missed me already"?
"You know I always miss you".
Her daughter replied sweetly. Doctor Vee turned and looked at me.
"This is all thanks to you".
She said looking at me.
"I didn't do any..."
I was still talking when her daughter embraced me with a hug.
"Ohh".
I exclaimed.
"Thank you ma'am. Because of you, my mom is still alive and I have the strength to get through this".
She said and gave me a big sincere smile. I couldn't help but smile back.
