CHAPTER TEN
Jesse
I'm standing on the island, just outside my barrack.
However, when I look over my shoulder, I don't see the barrack. It's not the only missing thing. I can't see any of the buildings. It's just forest and wilderness.
My chest hurts, and when I lift my hands, they are stained with blood.
And yet, I feel no fear, just a grim resolve.
There are five boxes at my feet, made of a material I don't recognize.
"How is the progress going?"
This voice isn't mine, but it's coming from my throat.
There's a man approaching me as I speak, and his clothes, too, are stained with blood. There's a weariness in each step he takes.
"The tunnels are nearly complete. The doors are being brought in."
"I see."
I turn to walk away but he stops me, "Are you certain about this, old friend? There has to be another way. Think of Hazeth and your child."
