CHAPTER TWENTY SIX

Taylor

Isabel looks stricken.

"You're lying. You're not my father. I have a Dad-"

But I find myself finally believing in Dad's words, "He's your adoptive father, Isabel. Remember that weird dream thing I had on the plane? A woman left you at their door-"

"Yeah, but-"

"It all makes sense, Isabel," I say, reluctantly. "The seal on you. Your own memory is fuzzy, almost like something is blocking it. And you're about as old as Jane should be. And then, if what Dad is saying is true, then Clyde's reaction to us, it could make sense."

My mind had been itching over Clyde, but Dad's words are forcing the pieces together.

"The scar on his face. I must have given him that-"

"You met Clyde Guard?" My father asks, horrified. "He's the one who-"

"Yeah, I was guessing that was the case," I murmur. "He's dead, or at least I think he's dead."

However, Dad doesn't look like he believes it, "Tell me what happened."
