CHAPTER TWELVE
Winter
Alec and I move out of the way just in time, but Melvin doesn't stop. He keeps coming at us, his movements wild and erratic.
"Melvin, stop!" I grab him by the arm, but it's too dark in the cave. I trip and crash onto the ground.
Alec drops his flashlight and tackles Melvin.
"Don't hurt him!" I yell.
"I'm... trying not... to," Alec grunts as he struggles with Melvin.
I don't know what kind of super Melvin is--or if his powers have even manifested yet--but we need to subdue him before he uses them. They'll make him even harder to contain.
"Melvin, we're trying to help you!" I run over to them, but it's like he doesn't hear me.
The two of them roll around on the ground, and Alec gets the upper hand. He pins Melvin to the ground, holding him in place as he struggles and thrashes beneath him. I kneel down beside them, trying to get a better look at Melvin's eyes. They're still glowing that eerie red color, and I can feel a sense of dread wash over me.
