Chapter Sixteen

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Winter

We make our way out of the chamber, my head spinning. As we climb up the narrow passageway, I can feel my heart pounding against my chest. The weight of the situation is starting to weigh more heavily on me. My father is in danger.

I started this journey with the hopes of finding him, but I didn't expect that he would be so tied in with the missing students.

Who is this Mordak? And what's his goal?

Every time I think of his voice coming through Trixie, a shiver runs through me. Whoever he is, he's a bad, bad person. I can feel it in my core.

And what about my mother? Tyr had her held captive as well.

Does that mean Mordak now has her? And, if not, where is she?

Alec stops suddenly, causing me to stumble into him. "What's wrong?" I ask, trying to keep myself steady.

He points to the ground. "Look."

I follow his gaze and see a faint set of footprints leading off to the left. "Someone's been here," I whisper.
