CHAPTER TWENTY THREE
Alec
"Winter!" I roar, charging toward them.
Her father still has her pinned on the ground, helpless as a rag doll. Why she isn't using her powers, I don't understand. Maybe she's in shock.
I won't let Mordak win. I won't let him take Winter or her father. I can feel the anger and adrenaline coursing through my veins, and I know that I have to act fast.
I launch myself at Winter's father, hoping to knock him off balance. But he's too strong. He barely flinches as I collide with him, and he swats me away like a pesky fly.
I hit the ground hard, gritting my teeth against the pain. But I don't give up. I push myself up, ready for round two.
Before I can make a move, though, Mordak steps forward. He's grinning, his eyes shining with delight.
"Well, well, well," he says. "Alec, is it? I've heard about you. You're quite the fighter."
I scowl at him, my fists clenched. "What do you want, Mordak?"
