Chapter Eight

CHAPTER EIGHT

Winter

The sound of footsteps wakes me. Opening my eyes, I take in the room. Alec walks across the floor and smiles easily at me.

"Hey," he says.

My heart flips. "Hey. I fell asleep."

“Uh, yeah.” He grins. “That’s what we were supposed to do.”

Choosing not to tell him how anxious I was last night, I yawn. I’m still exhausted, but we need to get a move on.

"You ready to grab some breakfast and head out?" Alec asks.

I sit up and stretch. "Sure."

"Cool." He's still smiling, and I can't help but join in.

"What?" I ask.

"Nothing." He shrugs. "You're just absolutely adorable when you sleep."

My face warms, but it feels amazing to hear him say that. Maybe part of the reason I was finally able to fall asleep was because he was next to me all night. The one half of an angel to my own half. The other half of my strength.
