STOCKS & SHARES 2

Jane was ‘playing up’. The Chief was a most unhappy man. As he sat in the cramped bedroom of the tiny flat he now shared with Susan - there was practically nowhere else to hide with his own thoughts - he pondered wearily over the events surrounding the break up of his marriage. Here he was, living with a very beautiful and intelligent woman whose sexual attraction had delivered its promises in triplicate. He loved Susan deeply, yet why did he still feel love and heartache over Jane?

True, Jane was also a beautiful and intelligent woman, but he could clearly see that after twenty- four years together, they had drifted apart in many ways. The coming of Susan had opened his eyes to what fulfilment was again, and his marriage to Jane had been for a long time in a state of apathy at best.

Susan appeared in the bedroom doorway, her face perplexed. “What are you doing sitting through here?” she asked. The Chief smiled ruefully at her, in a somewhat artificial manner.
