Kyle

"Well, guess I will balance out all the profit and loss of business today, huh?"

As Kaer said, a grin flashed over his face while looking at that man with gray hair and azure eyes who collapsed on the ground, and at his last moments before darkness devoured his consciousness, he noticed Kaer moving out from his desk in his direction with a smirk on his face.

'Who is this maniac? I didn't enter the home of a mad scientist, did I?... But well, I guess I'm dying either way today... Fuck this life...'

Finally, his eyes were completely drowned in darkness, and the bleeding and burn marks became even more and more tense.

At this moment, his life is hanging on the thin thread of fate, which is now rolled in the fingers of Kaer right now.

Luther suddenly came out of the room on the other side of the walls, hearing the commotion, and as his gaze fell over the wounded guy on the floor, a sigh flashed over his face as he took a glance over Kaer's mysteriously grinning face and commented,

"The tea will be ready in 15 minutes."

"Nice"

Kaer nodded with satisfaction, and after about a dozen or so minutes, the ashen-haired guy was seen once again waking up from that deep state of unconsciousness, and his eyes opened. He found Kaer reading some books while sitting right in front of him, while he was seen sitting in a rather comfortable, lean chair.

Kaer's gaze suddenly moved over towards him, and with a rather enthusiastic expression on his face, he immediately placed his book and specs aside as he started talking.

"Finally awake, huh? Well, sorry about the chair, but your head had too many pipes burst out; letting the blood fill the place would be a pain in the ass later on."

The guy suddenly popped out of his daze, hearing such an energetic voice about his physical and mental condition right now.

"Ah? Yeah..."

Kaer nodded, and suddenly the other guy noticed Luther standing right beside him with tea and some desserts on a plate placed beautifully.

'I didn't even sense him! Am I that injured!?!'

The moment he saw Luther, his whole body was filled with chills, but sensing awkwardness in the room, after a bit of hesitation, he just took the tea with a gesture on his face.

"Thank... you"

"Pleasure"

Luther greeted back and arrived behind Kaer, as Kaer was already sipping his tea and questioned while looking towards this guy while greeting himself too.

"I'm Kaer, and this, my assistant less butler more, Luther, helps me out with most of the activities in my life. Call it fate, but somehow we have managed to settle our shop in the outskirts region of Capital, so to say we do have commotions from time to time because this side is a bit of a neglected region, but it's still enough to run a cool living. Life is rough in this world; people do all sorts of jobs, but still...

Had your mind gone berserk or something to be causing explosions like 'that' in this place? The LED (Law Enforcement Department) is all in commotion right now; I don't think your people will have good times ahead in this place."

Kaer said that he took another sip from his tea as another guy seemed to be calculating the losses and troubles he had just added to his shoulders as he introduced himself.

"I wasn't aware things would escalate this far... I'm a new guy in Capital; originally from an outskirts region of this country, I managed to crawl my ass up in this world.

You know the condition of this world; the capital and big cities are just barely safe, and the outskirts are considered abandoned lands. In such shitty conditions, 'Mercenary' work was the only option.

I arrived in the capital just yesterday and took a private quest from a local pub. My job was just to support a few big guys to secure the leaked drugs, but the other side guys decided to explode the whole building as a distraction when things went beyond their control.

The big guys I came with suffered a lot, so small mercenaries like me just got abandoned. I'm still thankful for your service."

He somehow stood up while leaning over his seat. He had been changed to light clothes—just a simple shirt and pant—while still filled with dozens of bandages and plasters. Leaning on the desk, he took out a pouch filled with gold coins from the black space bracelet over his left wrist and passed it over to Kaer.

"I guess about 1 million, huh? That's quite generous for a mercenary. Your old gear was destroyed, by the way; you can check that in the corner."

Kaer smiled while pointing towards a pile of blood-drenched, burnt, and shattered gear at the corner. The gears were quite modern and advanced, as one would expect from the current timeline, but seeing that pile of broken wires and plates, the ashen hair guy was filled with a deeper frown, but Kaer smirked seeing that face and replied

"Well, lucky for you! This is a'shop'; I can give you any gear you can afford, and of course I will charge double the price from you. Hahaha, don't expect any mercy after you have LED guys knocking on my doors."

"What a clean 'businessman'... Anyways, I don't mind that, with my state right now, I will use all my savings and start a new one after my recovery. I'm Kyle."

Kyle scoffed, waving back his ashen hairs aside from his glowing azure eyes. He took out a wooden box filled with money and placed it on the ground, as he stated with a grin.

"Here is 13 million! Bring me five advanced potions! 2 sets of Tier 3 defense items! 6 Tier 2 throwing daggers with poison enhancement if you have any, and a heavy long sword of at least Tier 3! Help me stay here for 3 days, and I will give a million more."

He said that list with quite a grin on his face, but next, a cold scoff and a sneer flashed over the faces of both Kaer and Luther. In the next second, Luther casually dropped a set of lackluster dark defense set with a cloak attached along with a plain emrald blade long sword in front of him, along with two small light blue potions, as Kaer coldly replied.

"Tier 2 Nocturnal Blade Defense Set, Tier 2 Forgotten Breathe Sword, and 2 Low Grade Recovery Potions, with double charges, the total comes to 13.5 million! I will forgive that half million; now get your ass moving!"

As Kaer said, Luther immediately kicked Kyle out of the shop along with equipment like some wet cat on a rainy day. Kyle was still stunned as his stunned eyes fell over Luther in confusion, but the next moment, Luther coldly replied

"This is first-class equipment here, dumbass, not second-hand items you have been using till now; of course it's expensive, and even if it's on the outskirts, this is capital; you will expect the same price as the countryside here."

As Luther said, he immediately closed the doors of the shop as Kyle, with the view of the world turned completely 180, just picked up the items and left, scratching his head like some countryside dude being smoked by the expensive life in the big city.

"You think he will survive, sir?"

"I do hope so. Well,  I'm still not attached to him, so it's fun either way, or else we still have a few more candidates ahead."

Kaer scoffed and once again started to read his book as the soulmark over the chest of Kyle moving through the alley suddenly glowed in a mysterious celestial blue glow before vanishing without any trace, and so the day ended as a Kaer and Luther were both seen sniggering in amusement as they returned to their works as if nothing happened here.
