Isabelle's gaze turned toward the platter of fresh baked bread, her eyes lighting up with interest. There was nothing in the world that could replace bread.
There were many delicacies in the world. Many flavors of sweet, salty, bitter, sour, spicy and savory.
There were many complex, incredible, delicious, stunningly prepared foods she'd encountered as empress.
And there were many others she liked more.
But.
A good loaf of bread.
It had its own unique charm. A certain appeal she couldn't resist.
And this one looked especially appealing, all warm and fresh from the oven, the steam still coming from the top...
Her stomach growled, and her eyes sparkled with excitement.
She'd definitely start her meal with some bread!
Maybe.
With butter and jam...
