"More cobbler?" Gran offered, already slicing another piece. Her voice pitched higher into an unnatural squeak.
Definitely aliens, but I wouldn't mind being body snatched if I had more cobbler first.
"You bet." I shoved my empty plate closer.
"Thatta girl," she said. "This'll help to keep you from blowing away. We used to count our calories around here, but we lost count."
"If you eat after sundown, it's too dark to see the calories." Travis also scooted his empty plate closer for another piece. "Therefore, they don't exist."
A slow smile crept over Gran's face as she gazed across the table at him. "I knew I liked you for a reason. I think I'll keep you."
Travis grinned. "So you'll put the Ping-Pong paddle away, then?"
"Not on your life," she told him.
I chuckled. I liked these two together. They obviously loved each other. I liked Travis's warmth and humor around Gran too.
