Chapter 15

"You want to what?" Travis jabbed each word into his phone like an accusatory finger. "Speak slower so I have a second to find my jaw. It fell off somewhere between yellow jacket and you thinking about trespassing."

I gulped down a breath of air and then funneled it out, long and steady. I sat inside Bernadette next to the air pump at a nearby gas station while trying to work out what to do next. "Jake's fiancée didn't seem to know anything about burning candles, but what if it's all an act?" I lowered my voice even though my car windows were only open a crack. "What if she killed him?"

"Then that's yet another reason why you shouldn't go there tonight to take pictures," Travis said.

I could practically hear him rolling his eyes.
