Chapter 30

"Hi, Victoria Fox calling for Detective Palmer, please."

A brief pause, then the female voice on the line said, "Right away, Ms. Fox."

I imagined the detective was pretty difficult to get ahold of unless you were a suspected murderer. So that's one happy positive, I guess.

It was late Thursday evening, and I was winding down this terrible day with my favorite feline already asleep in my lap. A little bit of cat drool had started to seep into my sweatpants. I didn't care though. This and his blueberry lemon trifle he'd baked earlier were exactly what I needed to relax and put some distance between myself and everything that had happened lately.

The lock on my door was now fixed, and every single window was closed and latched, which was rare for me. I preferred them open. After learning someone had invaded my private space, though, I wasn't taking any chances.
