"Why do I get the feeling you're avoiding me?"
Without turning around, I clenched my teeth at the air filters I was doing inventory on for the sixteenth time since there was nothing else to do. It was He Who Only Comes Out at Night's voice on a bright and early Friday morning. Boxy wasn't even here yet.
"Probably because I'm avoiding you," I said.
Travis had sent a couple texts since the funeral, mostly about memorials for Jake and car memes. I'd ignored all of them.
Luckily his best friend, Studmuffin, was busy performing baking magic.
"I see..." Travis's frown trickled into his tone. "Mind telling me what I did wrong?"
"You can start by telling me about your ring," I demanded, still not facing him.
"It's...just a ring. Why do you ask?"
Why, indeed. How could he act so innocent when The Ring of Everlasting Night was attached to his finger?
I spun around. "Were you aware that Jake was missing a ring?"
