"You said the bed and breakfast employee found RaeRae dead," I said. "Was she...in pieces? I mean, are parts of her inside all three hearses?" Of course I knew the answer. I'd seen RaeRae's head and heard the audio on the hidden tape recorder.
"Victoria?" he said, as though scolding a small child.
"Detective?" I said in the exact same way.
"I think you already know the answer to that, at least partly. No pun intended."
I snorted. "I don't believe you about the pun, but go on."
"We got an anonymous tip about a severed head at the Three Brothers' Funeral Home soon after I told you not to go to Bedlam County. It was you who made the call, wasn't it?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about," I said in my most innocent voice.
"Uh-huh."
"I went to Red Bedlam Bed & Breakfast and then came home. The end."
"Uh-huh. And what did you find there?"
"A picture. It was of Cass, RaeRae, and Ruby Williams."
"Ruby?" The detective sounded just as shocked as I'd been.
