Chapter 67

As soon as the rainbow man saw the detective, he ran. Detective Palmer burst out of his Jeep and chased after him on foot. Since I liked sitting in one place better than running, I stayed put with Studmuffin.

Typically, innocent people don't run. So, I made a phone call.

"Are you calling RaeRae's murder hotline?" Studmuffin asked as he climbed into the driver's seat.

"Yep. Just to see what happens."

The line clicked, and that same terrible squawk burrowed into my ear.

I shivered and quickly hung up. "I think the phone number must be broken. If I know who murdered RaeRae before midnight tonight and call, will the squawky thing happen again? Will all the witches in Belle's Cove be rats forever because of a broken phone number?"

Studmuffin reached over and tapped me on the leg with his buttoned paw. "I think you just answered your own question, pet. You said if you know who the murderer is. You still don't know for sure."
