It turned out that even Chloe wasn't immune to Sunray's charms. She seemed to melt into the cozy waiting area, her wide eyes filled with awe as she looked around. Morning sun angled through the postage-stamp windows and patterned the yellow walls and tables with golden squares. The effect shimmered dancing light all over the pearls and rose-gold glitter detailing on Studmuffin's salted caramel chocolate tart, somehow making it even more beautiful than before.
"Oh, Victoria." Chloe stepped toward it with her hand over her heart. "Did you make this?"
"Um..." I didn't want to lie to her, but I wasn't so sure she was ready to handle the truth yet either. A necessary distraction was in order. "Would you like some?"
"Oh no. It's much too pretty to eat." She started to shake her head, trying to turn it away from the beautiful dessert, but she couldn't quite pull it off. "Maybe just a sliver."
I smiled. Dessert for the win every time. "Have a seat, and I'll cut you a slice."
