I headed for the police station from the opposite direction as Other Me, Studmuffin, and Travis. When I peeked around a corner streetlight, they were just strolling inside and Detective Palmer's Jeep was still parked at the curb.
"Bummer," I muttered. I really needed him gone, and soon.
Except for me, the street was otherwise empty. Another idea hit me. Yet again, it wasn't a great one, but it would have to do. I snuck up to the far side of the detective's Jeep, braced my back against it, and rocked the vehicle as hard as I could. His car alarm blared, just as I thought. Then I shot behind the car parked behind his and waited.
It didn't take long. Both Detective Palmer and the pretty blonde officer who sat behind the front desk rushed from the building. He was not wearing his suit jacket. Good to know.
"What triggered it?" the pretty officer asked once the detective silenced the alarm.
