Chapter 20

NYLA sat by her father’s bedside, holding his hand. The colour had returned to his face and his wounds were beginning to heal. Nyla looked at her father and was suddenly overcome with fatigue. She bowed her head and rested it on her father’s arm. She wasn’t sure how long she had been resting there but jumped awake when a hand rested on her shoulder. Rowan stood behind her.

“Rowan.” She mumbled, sleep still pulling at her heavy eyelids.

“Hey Petal.” He said softly, “You should get some rest. We need to discuss what we’re going to do tomorrow.”

Nyla nodded, casting one last look at her father before taking Rowan’s hand as he helped her up.

The hallways had been cleaned from the blood that had once stained the walls and the bodies had been removed. Nyla had guessed that the rebels had wanted revenge after their escape, but she didn’t expect that they would have been able to take down so many Guarde during their attack.
