AT the edge of the forest Kai whistled loudly. Several stags trotted over toward them. He helped Nolan get Nyla onto one before Nolan climbed up to sit behind her. The rest of them mounted a stag of their own with Kai mounting the largest among them. He led them onward. 


With Enid unable to conjure another portal, the group had no choice but to ride hard for the next couple of hours through the forest. They rode with such speed it felt as though the wind paved the way for them. 


Between Nolan’s arms, Nyla moaned. Her body felt hot against his. And small. As though she hadn't eaten in days. Anger flared in his eyes. Anger at the boy who did this to her. The boy made her fall in love before he shattered her heart.
