Job Hunting

Zi got a ping on her phone. It was an email alert. She clicked on it, as the subject read:

JOB OPPORTUNITY

Zi was excited. She read through the message. What a bummer, they decided to go with someone else.

Wow. She thought. She had sent them a resume along with the required application. She checked her resume again:

Zi squinted. Krea said it might work. She sighed. I am going to get my mom's help.

She hung up the phone, and smiled. It's not making money, but it'll give her experience! Her mom told her to volunteer someplace.

Okay. Where to apply?

She remembered the stores she passed by during her walks. Maybe one of them will take her. She picked up her phone and called one...

Today was the last day of the Mystical Trials Competition. The stadium was full and loud.

On the leaderboard were just two competitors going against each other. This was a race to the finish line. They had to dodge obstacles along the way...

Krea had an idea. Her and Zi should go out and get a job together. They were best friends, so it made sense! Both of them making money together..! It'll be great!

She texted Zi:

KREA: ZIIIIII!

ZI: HEY WASSUP?!

KREA: LETS GO OUT AND FIND A JOB!

ZI: SURE

KREA: I WISH I COULD FLY THERE. MAYBE IT'LL BE NORMAL AROUND HERE ONE DAY OMG.

ZI: YEAA. WE WALKING?

KREA: I GUESS SO. IM COMING TO YOU.

ZI: OK THEN CYA!

Krea had typed up a resume as well. She brought it along in a folder and walked to Zi's dorm room.

BANG BANG!

Zi opened the door.

"Hey Kre!" She said smiling.

She was dressed professionally.

"Hey Zi! Take your beanie off! You can't wear that to an interview!"

"Oh yeah!" She said laughing. "Hold up."

"Omg let me help you!" Said Kre.

"Ugh you don't think I can do my hair? I can style it really professional."

"Anyways I can do a great bun."

"Okay okay Kre whatever!"

"Hehe."

They went inside and closed the door. They went to a nice dresser with a mirror on top. On it laid hair brushes, combs, and makeup.

Krea grabbed a brush and took out the side ponytail Zi was trying to flaunt. Her hair flew out of it.

"Uhh." Krea said.

"Girl just gimme!" Zi exclaimed.

She took a scrunchie off the dresser and shook her wild hair. They didn't seem like going in a bun. She grabbed the brush in her other hand. These babies need taming.

"Zi what are you doing!" Said Kre laughing.

Zi was talking to her hair.

"My curly pretty hair won't you lay down flat."

Her melodic tone vibrated through the air thick like a heat wave. Her hair immediately flattened. She put the rest into an eloquent bun.

"There!" She said!

Krea was amazed. Velcro beings were good at potions and spells. Zi never thought to actually tame her hair. It just did its own thing.

Krea had on dress pants and a top to match it. She looked in the mirror alongside Zi. They were tidying up any loose strands and smoothing out wrinkles.

"We look fabulous! Let's go!" Said Krea.

"Ask me a job interview question." Said Zi frowning.

"Um. Tell me about your qualifications." Said Krea with a serious face.

"Uh.-"

"No no no!" Said Krea shaking her head smiling. She wagged her finger at Zi.

"What?" Zi was puzzled.

"Don't say 'uh'"- she did quote marks with her fingers for emphasis- "that is unprofessional."

"Oh. Um-"

"Hey! Zi! Stop! You did it again!"

"Omg. KREA! MY QUALIFICATIONS ARE I HAVE NONE. OKAY!"

Krea expression was just blank.

"You know what-" She said.

"Oh yeah!" Said Zi with a bright expression. "We are suppose to look for volunteer work first so we would have experience to get an actual job!"

"Oh. I wonder what places would let both of us help out." Said Kre.

"Yeah. Let's just go." Zi was just ready to go now.

They walked out the door. The sun was shining. Krea was glistening in the sunlight, like the beautiful Starnia she was.

They arrived to a clothing store five blocks down from the university. It looked promising. They glanced at each other! This may be it!

The doorbell chimed as they walked into the place. There were clothing on racks and hung up on the walls. Mannequin dolls adorned the windows.

The girls walked up to the counter. A lady came out of one of the backrooms with some clothes. She put them down on a cart and placed her hands on the counter.

"May I help you young ladies?"

"Hello! My name is Krea and this is my friend Zi. We are looking for volunteer work!"

"How lovely. I do not need any help. Sorry. Please look around and pick out a cute outfit!"

Zi almost rolled her eyes but Krea grabbed her hand and they both walked out of the store. They walked some more.

"Oh here's something!" Said Zi.

Krea crossed her arms. Maybe this will be a place they can volunteer at. They went inside.

It was an office. They heard the sounds of paper being copied and staplers stapling paper. Some heads turned as the girls walked in...

Zi didn't know what she walked into but Krea went forward to the receptionist desk.

"Hello!" Said Krea enthusiastically.

Zi plastered a smile on her face beside her bestie. They were made for this. Trying to be.

The receptionist said "Hello! How many I help you? Trying to take out a loan today?"

Zi kind of wanted to laugh and actually say yes.

"Actually we are looking for volunteer work!" Zi boldly stated.

She was really trying to be professional.

Krea said "We could help with paperwork!"

The receptionist said "Please wait! I will let my manager talk to you. Have a seat."

"Okay!" Said Krea.

The manager was amused. They never had an offer like this before. Hm. Them doing paperwork? Well, our office has quite a load of work on our hands. Maybe the employees would like the help...

They went up front and shook each of the girls hands.

"Hello! I am the manager here at Hix Loans. I heard you two were looking to volunteer here?"

"Yes." They both said.

"Okay. We actually could use your help."
