Eric's POV
The final bell rang, signaling the end of class, and a surge of anticipation filled my chest. The prospect of heading home had me practically buzzing with excitement. Without a moment's hesitation, Stephen and I agreed to take the stairs, a ritual we had grown fond of. As we descended, I caught a glimpse of something in his eyes—a flicker, a hint of contemplation. Was he pondering the moment he let go of my hand earlier? I couldn't help but hope he wasn't dwelling on it.
"Hey, are you alright?" I inquired, my voice laden with concern.
Stephen glanced at me, a smile gracing his lips. "Yeah, I'm just exhausted after today," he replied.
His words failed to convince me. "Are you sure? It feels like there's something more on your mind," I pressed, searching his gaze for answers.
"I promise, don't worry about it," he reassured me.
