Chapter 6 Fright without Danger_1

At 5 pm local time, the effects of Basil Jaak's anaesthesia gradually wore off, but Debby Sutton's surgery was still ongoing. Counting from daylight, it has been a full seven hours.

Bearing the pain, Jaak got up from the hospital bed and sat on the long bench outside the operating room with Mrs. Sutton, anxiously waiting for the closed door to reopen.

Mrs. Sutton tightly held Jaak's hands, staring intently at the red light on the wall without blinking, hoping both for the red light to go out and wishing it wouldn't extinguish just yet.

Such was the fragility and cruelty of life, unbearably light.

"Mrs. Sutton, Debby has a full forehead, which is a sign of prosperity and longevity. She will be okay", said Jaak. He felt Mrs. Sutton trembling, but he didn't know how to comfort her, so he choked out these words in the end.
