"Mortal, do you understand the implications of what you have just said?" Dark Lord Nightblade asked a moment later.
Perhaps due to exposure, I was able to resist the effects of her voice better. However, my stomach churned at the undercurrents of fear that I heard in her tone.
"Perhaps he simply does not know what kind of spell he got…" one of the Dark Elementals hesitantly said.
"It cannot be… but… mortal, what spell did you use on him?" she asked urgently.
It took me some time to try to remember the spell and - I had cast it on instinct rather than consciously deciding which one to use. Without too much effort, I was able to recall the spell and cast it again: a dark ball soon hovered before me.
Without too much effort, Lord Nightblade was able to control the orb of darkness, isolating it in a complex structure that sent probe-like things into it and seemed to help her to analyze it.
Seconds later, the structure disintegrated as she ceased its maintenance, instead quietly watching the innocuous sphere as it floated.
"This spell… this spell is meant to curse, blind and poison. However, it seems to be of exceptional purity and the same strange quality I cannot quite understand. Outside of this, its only notable traits are how surprisingly well it was constructed - in fact, you two might not have been able to do much better with a spell of this caliber," she said, more to the other Dark Elementals than me.
"Nevertheless, it should not have been able to heal, since healing spells must host as few foreign qualities as possible to avoid rejection by the target's body. Even though the purity of this spell is exceptional, which should point toward excellent affinity for darkness, it still should not have been able to heal considering how tainted it is with his imprint. Moreover, even if it were indeed a healing spell, I highly doubt its effect would have been noticeable considering its strength, far from the kind of purifying that Shadowlight had spoken of…." she mused, almost to herself.
"Which only leaves the strange quality Lord Nightblade had mentioned," one of the Greater Dark Elementals stated grimly.

It took a bit of time for them to explain the problem with the situation. My darkness spells seemed to contain an odd quality that boosted their effect and allowed them to heal Dark Elementals - or at least, it made it such that my imprint could be more easily accepted by them.
Due to my utter lack of knowledge regarding what they were talking about, they had to explain to me slowly how each creature has a unique imprint that marks each of their spells and prevents spells from falling apart as they travel. However, this imprint also means that other beings cannot accept the spell, or rather the mana that comprises the spell, into themselves.
This is generally a good thing in combat, since it means your enemy won't just absorb a spell that you threw at them and potentially recover or heal themselves. However, it also means that to heal someone else, you must use a gentle spell with the element that suits them and with as little imprint as possible.
These requirements must be met - using the suitable element is very important to avoid their body rejecting the mana, and the lack of imprint even more so. Even if a Dark Elemental were to be given an extremely 'gentle' darkness spell which wouldn't wreak havoc in their body, they would still reject the mana due to the imprint, which would mean that the healing spell had not succeeded.
On the other hand, I had somehow managed to heal another being with a hostile spell carrying a lot of my imprint, a feat supposedly impossible. Although the 'hostility' of the spell would have been largely nullified due to how much stronger the Greater Dark Elemental was compared to myself, the presence of my imprint should have been impossible to overcome.
Unless… my darkness spells were not darkness spells.
