Shelter

Emergency services littered the older area of central New Vista.

It was a coordinated effort to get that part of the block up and running again. People Sophia hadn't seen in years were peeking their heads out of their various businesses down the road, wondering about the commotion.

It was mortifying to see older faces of people who knew her grandparents. She felt like a failure.

No one could believe what they were seeing.

A house fire and a gas explosion at a local business. Two seemingly separate events yet they happened to the same person.

There were no reparations that would come close to the value of the places destroyed.

Sophia gripped the arm of one of the firefighters and her green eyes were surrounded by red from her previous tears as she interacted with those trying to help. She knew she wasn't in a good state of mind but she couldn't hold back.

"Someone is in there," Sophia begged again. "You must go back inside."
