Quarantine

After collecting the supplies, Hiro, Rafael, Maya, and Major Rodriguez found themselves inside Major Rodriguez's office, discussing the incident where their comrade was scratched by an infector on the back.

"So where is our comrade who got scratched?" Hiro asked in his calmest voice, disturbed by the news of an infector attack on their base.

"For now, we've isolated him in a room, and he's currently locked in one of the rooms here in your house," Maya explained in response to Hiro's question.

"So what should we do, Maya?"

"For now, Hiro, based on what most people know, once a person is bitten by an infector, the virus quickly spreads in their cells, altering the cell registry, eventually turning them into a living infector."

"But from your story, our comrade didn't immediately transform or become an infector?" Hiro questioned.

"You're right, Hiro. That's why there's a high possibility that he might turn into an infector eventually, but we don't know the reason for the slow change in cell registry. So, it's best to observe him for now," Maya explained to Hiro and the others in the room, contemplating what actions should be taken to address this problem that poses a significant threat to them.

After Maya's explanation, there was a moment of silent contemplation in the room. Rafael was the first to speak, "So, Maya, what's our plan here? We don't know how long it will take for our comrade to become an infector."

Maya nodded and continued, "Yes, Rafael, that's why we need to take steps to ensure our safety. First, we need to move him to a secure location where he won't be a disturbance. We'll transfer him to a room that need to be make outside the house."

Major Rodriguez interjected, "And make sure that the people around are safe. Let's lock the door of the room and turn it into a quarantine area to prevent the possible spread of the virus."

Hiro asked, "How will we know if he has changed or not?"

"You're right, Hiro," Maya replied. "We need to set up surveillance to monitor his condition. If we see any signs of change, we can either isolate him further or take the necessary actions."

"Unfortunately we don't have that fancy surveillance system you want in this house, Even if you wish to conduct periodic monitoring, we are unable to do so." Hiro responded about the surveillance thing Maya propose.

"We can think about that later it's just only a plan for our future actions. We can discuss it more briefly next time Hiro" Maya replied to Hiro about her propose plan.

"Okay..."

Despite the tension in the room, Maya continued, "While keeping an eye on him, we also need to prepare a contingency plan. In case he becomes an infector, we need to know how to face him and how to protect ourselves."

Their private meeting was successful, but they still needed to inform their comrades tonight because time was running out, and they needed to take action promptly.

Hiro's POV

Now outside the house within the perimeter of the fence constructed by our colleagues, discussions are ongoing regarding the necessary actions to take regarding the companion scratched by the infector. Maya and Major Rodriguez are elaborating on what we talked about inside the office earlier.

As expected, this discussion is not going to be smooth because I myself have some concerns about what Maya and I talked about.

"We disagree with your plan Major."

"Quarantining someone who will potentially become an infector is not a good plan."

Some people share the opinion that in this issue, considering the perspective, quarantining someone might seem pointless if that person will eventually become a threat. In the end, the decision came down to a vote, following the suggestion of Major Rodriguez because we live in a democratic country, and it's the will of the people that prevails.

"Let's just conduct a vote, comrades," Major Rodriguez suggested.

"Why bother voting, Major? We should just eliminate the menace since he'll turn into a monster anyway," responded a civilian to Major Rodriguez's suggestion.

"Perhaps you have a point, my friend, but remember he is still a human at this point, so none of us, including me or anyone else in this camp, has the right, unless you can bear the weight of directly or indirectly taking someone's life"

After Major Rodriguez made that statement, everyone with concerns about the issue fell silent. Perhaps they realized the gravity of taking a life, even of a being in the state of being human. I, too, acknowledge that I cannot bear the label of being a murderer, even if the world is falling apart. I still prefer to be a righteous person.

In the end, a vote was conducted, with 15 in favor of quarantine and keeping our comrade alive, and 4 against. It was evident that a majority supported our comrade to undergo quarantine.

The next day, the group gathered to carry out their plan of relocating their friend to a safer place. They decided to build a special room outside the house and were now ready to put the plan into action.

Major Rodriguez spoke to the group,  "We can't afford to waste any more time. Let's get to work on that room. Rafael, Hiro, gather the necessary materials. Maya, coordinate with the construction team and ensure we have a secure location for him."

While they gathered supplies and set up the construction site, Hiro felt a sense of urgency. "What if he changes sooner than we think? Shouldn't we hurry?"

Major Rodriguez understood Hiro's concern but said,  "We need to balance speed with caution. Rushing things might lead to mistakes. We'll work efficiently, but we also need to ensure the room is secure and well-prepared for the quarantine."

The construction team, made up of members with different skills, worked hard all day. They reinforced walls, secured windows, and set up the room with the basics for temporary living.

As they approached completion, Maya stressed, "The room needs to be not just secure but also stocked with everything he might need – water, basics and also the food that will be given the same as usual time. We can't risk any issues once he's inside."

Despite the urgency, the group paid close attention to every detail. By evening, the quarantine room was ready, highlighting the challenges they faced in this changed world.

Major Rodriguez commended the team, "Great job, everyone. We've taken the necessary steps, but the tough part is still ahead. Let's get ready for the transfer tonight. Maya, work with the medical team for a smooth move."

As the sun set, casting shadows over the makeshift quarantine room, the group prepared for the challenging task of moving their friend to his new, isolated space, hoping it would be enough to contain the threat.
