Who knew how long Gabriel would stay there. The silence between them was awkward and boring. Grace often glanced at the stairs to make sure Arthur wasn't going down.
Gabriel himself was busy on his phone. Acting like the awkwardness between them wasn't something that bothered him. The man read some work emails that had come in from his assistant. Then he wrote a message to check Grace's background during her stay in London.
He wanted to know the man who had snatched Grace from him when he turned around. If the man had a family that owned a business, Gabriel would ruin their business.
Even though they had a child. And Gabriel didn't see the slightest resemblance between Arthur and Grace. The kid must look a lot like that asshole. The thought made Gabriel want to smash his cell phone to the floor.
"Mommy?" called a small voice from behind.
Gabriel looked back and saw Arthur standing hidden behind the stairs. Damn, those black eyes pissed Gabriel off.
When Grace had opened the door earlier, Gabriel had been so surprised to think that the boy sitting behind Grace was his son because he had the same black hair. But when he got closer and saw that the boy had black eyes, it shattered all his hopes and expectations.
Gabriel put his phone into his pocket. Whatever it was. He didn't care anymore. He had to get his goal. Grace had to be his wife even if the child had to be his step-son. Besides, after Grace became his wife, he would make more children with blue and green eyes.
"Arthur, why are you here?" asked Grace who hurriedly stood up after her son.
"Is mommy still long? I want to watch a movie with mommy."
"Soon, sweetheart. Mommy will bring your puzzle."
Grace cleaned up Arthur's puzzle and took him back to his room. She closed the door to their room so Arthur could play inside.
"Arthur, please listen to Mommy," Grace said as she squatted down so she could speak at Arthur's height.
"Yes, Mom?"
"The one outside is an old friend of mommy's. But... we are now in a rather difficult situation. Can you hold on to those contact lenses as long as Mommy's friend is here? Mommy promises it won't take long. By the way, you look as handsome as your father."
Grace's words made Arthur smile.
"Okay, mommy. I also like it if I look like my father."
"Good boy, all right. Mommy will talk to her friend first and get this done as soon as possible. After that we will watch a movie together."
Grace held up her pinky which was then linked by Arthur's pinky to make a promise. Grace kissed her son's hand and left Arthur who was busy with his puzzle again.
When she returned to the living room, she couldn't find Gabiel there. She checked the kitchen and the yard outside. There was no sign of him. After confirming that Gabiel had really disappeared from her house, she settled down on the sofa with a deep sigh.
She was tired. Gabriel had only appeared for no more than an hour but it felt like Grace had run a marathon. She looked at the dreamcatcher hanging on her door. It seemed useless. Right after she hung it, bad luck visited her on this happy day.
Grace called Arthur over to watch a movie together. It was still early, but Grace had closed all the windows and light sources to make their living room dark. Grace also provided carrot cake and hot chocolate with marshmallows for them to enjoy while watching a movie together.
Grace positioned their sofa lengthwise so that Grace and Arthur could sleep. Grace also prepared two piles of thick blankets.
Arthur, seeing the arrangement, jumped onto the sofa and positioned himself on top of the blankets.
"Mommy, can we watch Scooby Doo today?" asked Arthur excitedly.
"Yes!" Grace had chosen a special Scooby Doo Christmas theme for the children. Arrhur had a great interest in problem solving. Games that require reasoning and logic such as puzzles were his favorites. Shows that solve mysteries and missions also catch his attention. Grace, who saw her son's interest, also supported him by providing his interest.
Grace opened her arms. She stared for a moment as Arthur rested his head in his mother's hand. Grace kissed the head of her son who was wearing contact lenses.
"Want to take the contact lenses off?" she asked. Gabriel, meanwhile, was at home.
But it didn't take long for Grace to fall asleep. Her energy was drained by Gabriel's sudden appearance. So, when her head hit the pillow, she fell asleep and left Arthur to enjoy the show on his own. Arthur wanted to say something. But when he saw his sleeping mother, the boy opted for silence and refocused on watching.

Arthur turned his head towards the door when he heard a sound.
The boy would wake his mother when he heard something strange. But his curiosity being far greater, Arthur left the sofa first, intending to see the source of the sound from the window.
But when he was near the door, The door opened on its own and a man appeared with their key house in his hand.
"Hello, Arthur. Sorry I was out for a while," Gabriel said casually and then closed the door again like it was his own house.
"Sir, Gabriel? You're not home yet?" Arthur asked politely.
Gabriel smiled a little. He crouched down and placed a large parcel in front of Arthur.
"Merry Christmas, Arthur. This is a gift for you," Gabriel said, making Arthur gasp.
