Beep. Beep. Beep. The alarm sounds throughout the dark hotel room. Rise gets up from the bed and the queasiness in his stomach goes through his body like a premonition of the day ahead. Jackson taped him on the shoulder, knocking him out of his somber thoughts.
“Hey, better get dressed to eat a small snack before,” says Jackson.
“Yeah, I am on the way,” says Rise.
Rise dresses in his tracksuit. Only the white line that runs through that reflects in the darkness. The navy blue and black are in the shadows. Han turns on the light of the lamp by his bed. Its brightness is jarring in Rise’s eyes. The three of the boys finish dressing up for the race in their uniforms. They check their directions on the phone: go to the main lobby. They walk down the hallway and into the empty elevator.
