Ending and Beginnings

A Don in a funeral home, some would say it was a familiar sight, given his profession. But it really was not. Task such as picking out caskets were often left for those on the lower levels. And what made Don Romano's presence even more unusual, was that he had not come alone, he was with his wife, the two of them moving from casket to casket.

They did not make a sound, though every now and then they would pause at certain coffins and have silent conversations with their hands. There was a cloud of sorrow emanating from both of them, the man more so than the woman. But they carried it well. Only wiping a stray tear from time to time and carrying on with their business.

These were the silent observations of the funeral home director. The man taking in the couple with barely hidden curiosity. It was not every day that the Don of the Romano clan shopped personally for a coffin afterall. Gio, focused on the task at hand, did not pay him any attention.
