Author’s POV:

A girl was sprawled in the center of a king sized bed, she was squirming, her hands tightly held on to a fistful of clothes while her eyes were tightly shut. It seemed like she was in so much discomfort but there was no one around to help.

Davina was stuck in a nightmare that replayed in her head like a reel. In it, she was in the middle of an opening in the forest, when a grey wolf suddenly rushed out of a path, behind it were three wolves. The grey wolf appeared to be tired as it suddenly stopped running and turned to boldly face them. It was taking a last stance. The wolf growled loudly at her pursuers but they growled back, as if on cue, they attacked the grey wolf, it tried to fight back but it was quickly overpowered. At the last minute, there was a suddenly burst of power and it managed to kill one of it’s pursuers. It’s actions enraged the other two wolves and they attacked with more vigor. The grey wolf was slashed on both sides and blood pooled underneath it. It slumped to the ground and howled in pain as it’s attackers strikes again.

Davina felt like she was at the scene but she could only watch and was not able to help. She felt pains in her chest and tears quickly pooled in her eyes as she turned around, not willing to watch the pitiful wolf in it’s dying moment but that never came, the scene began once again and she was forced to watch it too many times to count.

Davina suddenly opened her eyes and gasped loudly, she quickly sat up but hissed in pain. There was a throbbing pain in her head and a burning sensation on her wrist where the wolf tattoo was. She gritted her teeth to prevent herself from screaming out in pain. Davina didn’t know how much time has passed before the pain subsided.

Davina looked around and was confused when she realized that she was in an unfamiliar place. She could hear the loud chirping of birds, and smell the musky earth. Her senses were heightened and it confused her greatly.

When she noticed the sun rays peeking from behind the curtains, she gasped. “I’m so dead today.” She was supposed to be up before anyone else in the packhouse to prepare breakfast and do chores. She began to imagine the beatings she would receive for her mistake.

“Better late than never.” Davina tried to get out of bed, unfortunately, she tripped upon the blanket and fell on the floor. “Ouch!” she hissed.

The door to the room was pushed open and a man walked in, a frown appeared on his face when he saw that there was no one on the bed. He turned around to leave but stopped when he heard a string of angry words in the room.

“Who the hell played a prank on me? How could I have overslept? There is so much to be done today-” Davina was still on the floor as she tried to massage her forehead where she had felt the most impact from her fall, she didn’t even notice the presence of another person’s in the room.

Axel walked around the bed to where Davina was, a smirk appeared on his face as he saw her disheveled appearance. “Does your highness find the floor more comfortable?”

Davina eyes widened as she found the voice very familiar, the events of the previous day replayed in her head. An embarrassed smile subconsciously appeared on her face, she had forgotten that she was mated and was no longer living with her dreadful family.

The events of the night ended when she realized that she was mated to the most dangerous wolf in the country. ‘I had a panic attack.’ Davina almost facepalmed at this. “Alpha.” She muttered as she submitted to him.

Axel frowned at her action, he didn’t care about other wolves but he had heard some rumors about the princess and how proud and willful she was, but the person before him was nothing like that. “Look at me,” He sat on the soft rug and ordered gently.

Davina slowly raised her head until she was looking at his eyes, her attention was drawn to the golden orbs. It confused her about how Axel can be both handsome and dangerous at the same time. No matter how he tried to conceal it, his domineering aura was still present except that it didn’t scare her anymore but it didn’t mean that she could disrespect him. Who knew whether he would do justice to some of the rumors and hit her.

“What are you thinking about, mate?” Axel noticed how distracted Davina was and that pissed him off a little.

“You.” Davina subconsciously replied, her eyes widened in shock at what she had done. “I-I’m sorry.” She was expecting him to hit her for her disrespect but it never came, instead she heard his laughter.

She was taken aback at how melodious it sounded to her ears. Axel was pleased at her response, he gently caressed her cheeks. “You are cute.”

His touch made her feel tingly on the inside and she leaned into him. Axel indulged her and pulled her into his arms, he couldn’t deny how she perfectly fitted in his arms like they were made for each other. He sniffed the crook of her neck, her vanilla scent was intoxicating and he soon found himself addicted to it.

Davina felt safe in Axel’s arms, like nothing could ever get to her. She was somewhat glad that she was able to leave her family even though she was mated to the Demon Alpha in return. The both of them were lost in their separate thoughts while enjoying the other’s company, at that moment, Davina’s stomach chose to make a funny sound which leaves her embarrassed.

“Your Highnes-” Axel started but she cuts him off.

“Davina, Call me Davina, Alpha.”

“My name is Axel!” He snapped, scaring Davina and she recoiled from his touch. “I’m sorry,” It hurt him to see the fear in her eyes, Axel knew that he had completely ruined the atmosphere. “We are mates and it feels wrong when you address me like a stranger.”

“Oh, it’s my fault. I’ll call you Axel then.” Davina tried to sound calm but she was scared, she was worried. She knew that he had a loving side but that didn’t change the fact that there is another side of him that she didn’t want to see, a side of him that caused other Alphas to behave like rabbits before a predator while they were around him. Yes, she had heard a lot of things about him the previous night, but he was her mate and she was willing to give him the benefit of doubt.

Axel coughed lightly, snapping her back to reality. “I’m sorry for not waking you up earlier, I thought you needed to rest more after being on your feet all evening.”

“What do you mean?”

“You were worried about missing training, right?” Axel inquired.

“Yes, it’s fine. I can do that later.” Training? Pfft The question made her realize that she had a different identity, a fake identity and it was that of a Beta wolf. Davina had no clue about what training entails but she could only play along.

“You are too skinny, you shouldn’t train anymore.” Axel took one of Davina’s hand in his and frowned. When he had carried her the previous night, he discovered how light and skinny she was, if not for rumors and what her badge said, he would never believe that she was a Beta wolf but instead, an omega. He assumed that she spent too much time training and neglects her wellbeing and he made a vow to change that. He was strong enough to protect himself and her and if anyone tried to hurt Davina, he would make sure that blood flows like a river.

“But-”

Axel didn’t give her a chance to explain. “I understand but this isn’t the palace, you are safe here. You should get ready, breakfast will be served soon.” With that, he stood up and left the room without a backward glance.

Davina couldn’t afford to waste time, she quickly rushed to bathroom, it was luxurious but she had no time to admire the beauty around her. She was nervous about how the dinner might turn out. She quickly brushed a teeth with a pink toothbrush that she assumed wasn’t for Axel, then grabbed a bottle of coconut scented shampoo to wash her hair, before taking a bath.

When she stepped out of the bathroom, the bed was already laid and on it was a bag with a box besides it. When she turned out the contents from the bag, there was a black gown, a pair of ballet flats and makeup. She flushed in embarrassment when she noticed a set of underwear. ‘Did he also do this?’ She felt loved but more embarrassed when it was a fit, how was she supposed to face him after he had chosen even her underwear?

The black gown fit to her curves and stopped above the knee, it was simple yet elegant. Davina pulled her hair to a stylish knot and when she opened the box, it contained teardrop diamond earrings and a tiara to match. “Right, What’s a princess without her tiara?” She traced a finger over the earrings, it was expensive and it made her feel guilty.

Within her, Davina knew that all the good stuffs were originally for the princess and by taking her place, it all came to her which made her feel uncomfortable. She could see that Axel cared for her as his mate but she felt like a fraud, she was fooling him but she could not bring herself to tell him the truth; not yet, not until the real princess has been found.

She heard a knock on the door before it was opened. Axel walked in. “Are you ready? Don’t you like the earrings?” Axel frowned as he internally scolded his beta and made a mental note to beat him up since he was the one who advised him to purchase the diamond earrings.

“It’s fine, don’t you think it’s too much?” Davina carefully asked, not wanting to risk offending him.

“You’re a princess, this shouldn’t faze you,” A look of understanding appeared on his face like he had just been enlightened. He sauntered towards her and carefully took the earrings, he helped her out it on. ‘Maybe she wanted me to help her.’ A grin appeared on his face but it quickly disappeared when his eyes fell on her bare neck. With a tug, he loosened the knot, allowing Davina’s hair to fall, covering her neck in the process. ‘Much better.’

His actions confused Davina but she didn’t inquire his reasons. Then, he took the tiara and placed it on her head. “This is a sign of power, you should never take it off unless I let you.”

“Okay.” She nodded.

Axel half expected her to disagree, argue with him or even throw tantrums but none of that happened. Her docile actions made him feel happy. “Come on,” He took her hand in his and led her out of the room. “We are having breakfast with some of the important pack members.”

“Why?” She demanded.

Axel didn’t get angry, instead he smirked. ‘She wants to have dinner with just me, how cute. I’ll make it up to her later’

Davina was nervous. ‘Why do I have to meet his pack members so soon? I have to be careful.’

“Just for proper introduction.” Davina didn’t even notice that there were no guards in the hallway, she was staring at the ground as they walked, thinking about how the breakfast might end up being a disaster. “You are a princess, you submit to no one else but me. Do not show anyone a weak side, only me can see that side of you. You are their leader, everyone else but me is below you. Raise your head!”Axel ordered in a cold tone of voice that left no room for objection.

It was like something clicked at the back of her mind, Davina suddenly raised her head high, her back was straight, her posture poised and her chin held high. Her aura became more authoritative and her expression, calm and composed. At that moment, Davina didn’t think about anything else, she became the princess.
