As the pair arrived in the dining area, the room immediately went silent as all eyes fell on the pair. To Axel, this was something he was used to and he showed nothing on his face whereas, Davina felt uncomfortable being started at by the twenty people in the room, forty pair of eyes were focused on her or .. probably the tiara on her head but there was nothing she could do about it as she wasn’t in the main control of her body, someone else was but no matter how she called out in her head, the person wouldn’t respond.
The pack members in the room stood in respect but were curious about the person that was walking along side their Alpha, the pack had rules, strength was the key and they instantly understood that if the person wasn’t worthy, they would be allowed to trail behind the Alpha while cowering in fear. Axel took his place at the head of the table but first, he pulled out a chair next to his and helped Davina sit.
“Thank You Axel.” She smiled at him and he nodded back in response. Axel felt that there was something different about his mate but he didn’t think much about it as he was inwardly glad that she wasn’t as subservient as when they were all alone.
A small smile appeared on his face but he quickly concealed it. “You may all sit.” He said in cold tone of voice and the pack members present, instantly responded. No one would dare sit at the dinning table unless the Alpha was sitted, that was the rule and it was only followed when the Alpha was to join them.
No one touched the pair of utensils before then and everyone submitted their heads as if they were waiting. Davina noticed how orderly they were and the packs she had heard about the previous night would not be able to compare to the group of people sitted before her. ‘No one is eating, why?’ She looked at Axel who was also staring at her, as if he was waiting, the silence in the air was overwhelming as her mind tried to think of the reason for their wait.
Davina was not in charge of her body in terms of attitude and body reaction but she had to deal with the others on her own. She internally swore for the other party whom she had guessed was her wolf but she never got a response. “Are you okay?” Axel inquired as he saw how distracted she was.
“Yeah. I was just having a conversation.” She lied knowing that Axel would sum it up to her talking to her wolf.
“I’m curious to know what that’s about?” He raised an eyebrow which made him took hotter.
“It’s a secret” She winked at him. Axel was taken aback by her action but he smiled while thinking of ways to pry the secret out of her lips. Davina was chastising herself. “Let’s eat.”
Davina threw restraint to the wind as she picked up a fork and started eating what was before her. Axel was about to say something but stopped as he took began to eat. Like that, the other pack members each let out a sigh and started eating. Few minutes later, the table was quiet, too quiet until someone dropped a spoon, the action resounded in the room and a woman quickly got up and submitted whilst hiding someone behind her. “I’m sorry Alpha, he’s just a child, he does not know the rules.”
“It’s fine, it was an accident,” Davina answered before Axel could, then she saw a child peeking behind the women’s body. “Come here.” She carefully said. Davina saw that the woman was hesitant to let go of her son but one look from Axel changed her actions.
All eyes was on Davina as the little boy gleefully runs towards her, some was filled with pity, others contained anger or indifference but Davina didn’t notice. “You shouldn’t run or you might fall.” She playfully pokes the boy on his nose as he arrived.
She is not very comfortable around people she doesn’t know but she never had issues with children as she considered them innocent and pure. “But I’m strong.” The six years old tilted his head to the side and showed his non existent muscles.
Davina couldn’t help but laugh. “I can see that but it part of the rules from where I come from.”
“Really.” The boy’s eyes widened as he kept staring at Davina’s tiara with a question on his mind.
“Yeah, no running on the hallway but I broke that rule all the time.” She said the last part in a whisper but everyone could clearly hear her.
“Are you a princess?” The boy asked the question on his mind as well as the minds of everyone that was present. They were curious but they dare not voice out their questions in fear of upsetting their Alpha.
“Yes, my name is Princess Davina Alisha Andronov.” Davina lied as she subconsciously touched the tiara in her head.
“You are a real princess!” The boy said a little too loud then he turned his head, looking for his mother who was sitting several seats away. “Mama! I told you! She is a princess from the fairytales. Do you have a prince too?”
Davina quickly glanced at Axel with a genuine smile on her face. “In fact, I do.”
“Is it me?”
Davina burst into laughter at the child’s innocent question but someone besides her didn’t find it funny. ‘Is a pup trying to take our place?’ Axel’s wolf mindlinked him.
“No silly, It’s not you but I have a special role for you, why don’t you be my protector. What do you say?” Davina placed a hand over Axel’s in an attempt to console him.
“I accept, but can I get chocolate, lots of them.” The boy tried to act cute by blinking his big green eyes that reminded Davina of nature.
“You can but not too much so that you don’t get a toothache. Understood?”
“Yes princess. Uh- my name is Brian.” He muttered before running back to his mother.
The atmosphere in the room was warmer and more accommodating, every action of Davina’s did not miss the eyes of the other people present in the room. They had also heard about the princess and how she was as powerful as an alpha but they never knew she had a kind and soft side to her. Her interaction with Brian had improved their thoughts about her.
Davina felt that the other party in her body had gone and she was now in total control of her self. Everyone continued eating except Davina, Axel noticed that she had only managed to eat one quarter of the contents in her plate. “I’m full.”
“Are you sure?” His gaze hardened.
“Yes, I don’t have much of an appetite now.” In her pack, Davina had never had much to eat and thus her stomach had adapted to eating small contents.
“Don’t you like it?”
“I love it but I’m full.” She insisted.
Axel began to wonder if she was being starved at the palace, his aura became colder at the thought of that. “Bring a serving of the dessert.” He mindlinked one of the omegas in the kitchen.
Almost immediately, an omega appeared in the room with a bowl of strawberries covered in chocolate. Davina’s eyes widened at the sight of something she had never had the privilege of eating. The bowl was placed before Axel, he took one and placed it before Davina’s lips and she responded by taking a bite. She slowly chewed it before smiling at him.
They were ignorant of the pair of eyes that was fixed on them, Axel and Davina were lost in their own world as Axel patiently fed her and Davina ate while giving him a smile from time to time. The other pack members present felt bullied by being forced to watch this scene but they didn’t have the courage to protest against it. They could already guess who the princess was to their alpha since they have never seen him act so gentle with anyone so this was a scene that would be stuck in their heads, replaying like a loop for a very long time.
They were halfway done with the contents on the bowl when Davina felt stuffed and she rejected the next strawberry. She stared at the bowl with some pity but no matter how she longed to eat more, her stomach threatened to burst. “Thank you.” She said once again. No one has ever been so sweet and caring to her since she was tagged wolfless, she always thought that she would never feel the joys of having a mate but the Moon Goddess had other things in store for her.
Davina was lost in thoughts as she recalled everything she had heard about the Demon Alpha and how he had been so different from the rumors about him. She didn’t care if he was bloodthirsty, violent or scary as long as he treated her like a queen. In her mind, every action taken by Axel became justified. If he attacked a pack, it must be that they had tried to attack his first and if he murdered someone, they very well deserved to die. She didn’t care about his flaws as long as he made her feel wanted and protected her. Besides, no one else could boast of having the Demon Alpha feed them with his very own hands.
Unknown to her, Axel had his eyes fixed on her… .or her lips that were red and juicy. He couldn’t get enough of just seeing Davina and it took so much efforts to restrain himself from devouring her like the wolf he was. He assumed that she was conversing with her wolf as different expressions appeared on her face.
Axel coughed a little to clear the lewd thoughts appearing in his mind, as a result of his action, the other pack members stopped eating as they thought this was a silent command from their leader while Davina broke out of her thought.
“Davina, this are some of the pack members. As you all might have guessed, this is Davina, my mate,” He waited for a few seconds, seeing that no one had nothing to say, he continued. “She is Princess Davina, the daughter of the king and queen of the royal pack. We would hold the introduction ceremony in a few days, where the rites would be performed and she would be reinstated as my Luna.”
“ Alpha, what about the rules?” A man asked with a smirk on his face.
“Just so you know, she is a Beta wolf and her reputation far precedes her so Lucas, if you really want to lose face then you can challenge her.” Axel explained with a bigger smirk on his face.
“Oh, I look forward to sparring with you Luna.” Lucas bowed his head towards Davina.
“What rule?” Davina couldn’t help but ask as she didn’t want to do anything that would jeopardize her future with her mate and expose her secret.
“Every new wolf that wants to join the pack would have to challenge the warriors to prove his worth.”
“Who do I have to fight?” Davina tried to keep her voice steady as she internally prayed that her questions does not backfire.
“Do you want to prove that you alone are worthy of me?” Axel looked into her eyes to try and decipher what she was thinking.
“Yes.” Without avoiding his gaze, she replied boldly.
“You don’t need to fight anyone, you are not an outsider and besides, only you is worthy enough to stand with me side by side.” He was pleased by her response. “We would be receiving some representatives from the royal pack soon, so we should make them feel welcomed. The king and queen might show up and we have to show how organized and safe this pack is for their daughter. Am I clear?”
‘The king and queen are coming!!’ surprise appeared in Davina's eye's, she was shocked to meet the parents of the princess.
