**Fuyuki City, the Holy Grail War.** This coastal city is relatively developed in terms of fishing. However, its greatest specialty isn't fishing, but rather…
—Gas explosions.
Yes, Li Mo knew that the Holy Church in Fuyuki City liked to use gas explosions to cover up the traces of battles between magi. But seriously… who could explain why he encountered a gas pipeline explosion the moment he landed? Damn it!
Li Mo moved quickly. Almost as soon as he sensed danger, he scrambled away from the spot. Then, with a loud "boom," the explosion occurred.
If he hadn't moved fast enough, Li Mo would have been caught in the blast. While he wouldn't have died on the spot, he would have been in a very sorry state.
He hadn't expected things to unfold like this.
Because there was a countdown before the crossing, Li Mo had remained calm. After a good night's sleep, he prepared for the crossing, bringing along everything he needed, such as Hanachirusato's mask.
But landing right into a gas explosion? Why not just drop him directly into a battlefield where Servants were fighting? This was even more absurd than landing on a mountain and encountering a brown bear.
The sound of the gas explosion was loud, and the commotion would definitely attract attention. For example, the police officers patrolling nearby.
Li Mo wasn't keen on dealing with official personnel, but the officer who approached him was a mature and steady middle-aged man who seemed quite kind. Seeing Li Mo's disheveled state, the officer immediately assumed he had been caught in the explosion.
"Sir, are you alright? Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine, just a few scratches. I'll take care of it when I get home."
His fluent Japanese convinced the officer that Li Mo was a local. After all, Li Mo had spent over a year in Japan. After a brief exchange, the officer left him alone and called the gas company to handle the damaged pipeline.
Li Mo left the scene. Although he had no clear destination and didn't even know where he was, he didn't look like someone who was aimless.
As he walked away, Li Mo recalled the information he had gathered from his brief conversation with the officer.
"Child disappearances?"
The reason the police were patrolling was that Fuyuki City had recently experienced a series of child disappearances. Parents had been flooding the police station with reports.
The Japanese police force, despite being portrayed as useless in Detective Conan, actually had some competence. Li Mo remembered reading somewhere that if you were to pick the most capable organization in Japan, it would probably be the police. The Self-Defense Forces? Utterly useless.
But that was far removed from Li Mo's current situation. It was just something he had read while browsing the internet. Though, if someone posted a risqué image, the topic would quickly shift.
Li Mo began to analyze the information.
Child disappearances, combined with the Holy Grail War, immediately brought to mind Ryuunosuke Uryuu from the Fourth Holy Grail War. As a Master with no magical ability, he had resorted to extracting life force from children to supply his Caster with mana.
But now, this was the Fifth Holy Grail War. Ryuunosuke Uryuu's ashes were probably long gone. It couldn't be his ghost returning to kidnap children, could it? That would be too fantastical.
So, who was kidnapping the children?
Li Mo found a secluded spot and used a spell to heal his injuries. As he did so, he searched his memory for relevant information.
"I remember now… Caster's Master used the life force of children to convert into mana, didn't he? How disgusting… Medea."
He had watched the anime just yesterday, so some details were still fresh in his mind. The Oil Baron's actions were particularly vile, and Li Mo could barely stomach those scenes.
The Oil Baron's methods were the epitome of a classic magus's behavior in this world, and Li Mo knew that well. However, he couldn't accept it.
Now, there was one piece of information: the Oil Baron had already arrived in Fuyuki City. But it was unclear whether Medea had killed him yet, so…
"I should go pay my respects at a temple."
---
**Paying respects at a temple naturally meant visiting a shrine.** In Fuyuki, the first place that came to mind was Ryuudou Temple. This temple, located on Mount Enzou, sat atop a leyline. Of course, this was just a cover. Deep within the mountain, there was a massive cavern where the Greater Grail was housed.
Li Mo crouched outside Ryuudou Temple, waiting for the results from his shikigami. Originally, he had planned to blend in as a worshipper. After all, in 2004 Japan, some yen bills were still in circulation, and he had studied the currency to confirm this.
Unless, of course, the yen in this world wasn't the same as in his.
But Li Mo later changed his mind.
From a distance, he observed Ryuudou Temple. Although the temple was located on a leyline, it didn't necessarily mean it had any mystical barriers or defenses.
The three shikigami he had obtained from the abandoned shrine could scout the area for him.
"As expected, Medea isn't at Ryuudou Temple."
When he had seen Ryuudou Temple from the foot of the mountain, Li Mo hadn't detected any barriers. The divine arts of the Yougou Shrine had allowed him to step into the realm of the mystical, and he had been experimenting with them along the way.
The answer was that they worked.
In the world of Teyvat, the divine arts relied on manipulating elemental energy. In this world, however, they connected to the greater source of mana, or "Mana." But the flow of mana in the Type-Moon world felt stiff, as if something was blocking it.
"No wonder this world requires Magic Circuits. They use the greater source of mana and their own life force to generate magical energy… Relying solely on the greater source isn't enough."
Next, he needed to locate the Oil Baron's workshop. It should be somewhere around Ryuudou Temple…
Fuyuki City only had a few leylines. If someone wanted to tap into their power, they would need to be nearby. Otherwise, the Tohsaka family would notice. Moreover, Medea had appeared near Mount Enzou after killing her Master.
Knowing the general area didn't mean he could pinpoint the workshop's exact location. As he walked from the residential area to Ryuudou Temple, he hadn't noticed anything unusual.
"Looking for a needle in a haystack, or waiting for the rabbit to come to the tree…"
After pondering for a while in the forest on Mount Enzou, Li Mo decided on his next move. He left his shikigami to keep watch at Ryuudou Temple while he headed back down the mountain.
Since there were child disappearances, it meant the children were being taken to the workshop. Li Mo couldn't use his divine arts to locate the workshop directly, but that didn't mean he couldn't use them to track the children.
Switching from a direct approach to an indirect one wasn't a problem for Li Mo.
