Adia didn't know where she was.
One moment, she was floating in an abyss of darkness, the next, lying on the ground. The sun shined down brightly unto her face; heat immediately filled her entire system. She sat up, taking a good look around, there wasn't much based off her findings.
There were a few cabins, all different colors and flags. Next to these cabins was a small kitchen and picnic benches. As before, there were different tablecloths for each table. But that's not what struck Adia, it was the weird structure in the corner, and the wall surrounding the area.
She was enclosed in some weird courtyard, with weird kids walking around with colored uniforms.
"So, you must be the new girl," A voice said behind her, making Adia jump with fright. She scooted back from the voice.
"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you," Adia looked up at the figure, "I promise I'm harmless."
The sun outlined the strange figure but once she crocked her head, a young man with blond hair in his teen years was shown. Almost immediately, Adia felt herself falling for him.
'You just met him!" A voice in her head tried to reason. And for once, Adia clung to it. She didn't know where she was, or what she was as a person, but at least her mind was sane. Somewhat.
The young teen boy held out his hand, hesitantly Adia accepted the gesture and was brought up to her feet.
"I'm Cy," The young man said, holding out his hand.
Adia gave a small smile. "I'm Adia."
"Pretty name, haven't heard one in a while. All these people's names," Cy pointed towards the crowd of campers, "are so generic."
Not knowing how to respond to that, Adia gave another smile. It seemed like the easiest thing to do at the moment. Everything was coming fast, and the young teen girl just didn't know how to respond to it.
She needed answers.
"So, what is this place?" Adia asked softly, bowing her head.
"You're a quiet one huh? Well to answer your question….we don't know exactly." Cy shrugged. "I really wish I could tell you more."
Adia could tell that Cy was holding something back. He wasn't telling her the whole truth, but in his defense, he had only met her only minutes ago.
"Hey Knucklehead! That's our camper your talking to!" A voice sternly said from a few feet away. Cy turned around and sighed.
"Chill out Olivia, it wasn't anything, I promise. I was just welcoming her."
A young girl with brown hair came trudging with a few people behind her. 'Maybe in salute' Adia told herself.
"That's rich, especially coming from you," Olivia mocked. Her and her friends had reached Cy and were prodding him for everything he was worth. It seemed like a love-hate situation.
Cy crossed his arms, grumbling. "Fine, I'll leave. Have fun with Mr. Dark Vader over here," he pointed towards Olivia, "It was nice meeting you Adia, hopefully I'll see you around."
He stalked off.
Olivia turned towards Adia, as usual, she stuck out her hand. "Sorry about that, Cy's a menace. Name's Olivia."
"Adia," she said quietly.
"Cute name."
It seemed that everyone was going to say that today, but it didn't come as much as a surprise in her terms. Behind Olivia, there were three other people.
"Um Olivia?" A young women said.
Olivia turned around. "Oh yeah, sorry." She pointed towards a teenage boy with brown hair, and green eyes. "This is Oliver."
Oliver waved. "Hi Adia."
Next, she pointed towards a young woman with rainbow hair and brown eyes, along with darker skin. "This is Iris."
Iris didn't wave or give any indication of awareness, instead her head was pointed down towards the ground. 'Must be the shy type,' Adia told herself.
Lastly, Olivia pointed towards a tall young man with brown hair and brown eyes. "This is Axel."
Axel nodded, "It's nice to meet you, Adia." His voice was gruff but inviting when it came to those he loved. There was also a sense of protectiveness that came with him, for Oliva, Oliver, and Iris.
And someday, maybe for her as well.
"It's nice to meet all of you," Adia responded, she gave a small gesture. "So, what are we?"
"A team," Oliver responded, "A family."
Adia didn't know if she should've believed that, it just seemed so far-fetched. A family…it just didn't sound right. It seemed that everyone here had been there for a while, and then all of a sudden, Adia appears out of nowhere and is accepted almost immediately. There just wasn't something that was adding up.
How she wanted to believe that there was a possibility to become one with a family of her own, but why now? Why show up randomly without any explanation?
She realized that her silence had gone on far too long when a hand landed on her shoulder. Adia looked up to see Olivia staring at her.
"Listen Adia, I know this is a lot, and things are happening really fast. But I promise that everything will be cleared up really soon. There are just some things that you shouldn't know yet."
That was reassuring.
Adia nodded, not trusting her voice. The moment she opened her mouth, tears would soon follow. And Adia didn't really want to start sobbing in front of her new team. She was already embarrassed enough.
"Olivia knows what she's talking about, that's why she's the leader," Oliver responded, "But I get if your overwhelmed."
That was an understatement.
"Do you mind?" Adia looked down to see Oliver holding out his hand, and for once she accepted it. Even with no memories of the past, she could dimly remember how much comfort physical touch had brought her. She nodded and walked over.
Her hand grasped with Olivers. It wasn't weird, or uncomfortable, it was more of a comfort. Her tense aura lessened, and she almost found herself melting into the handsome boy next to her.
"There you go," Oliver said softly.
She grinned and laid her head on Olivers shoulders. He was there for her. He understood her. And that's all that mattered.
"Seems like you have a fan," Olivia chucked.
"She's not a fan, and she's scared. I get it, remember how terrified I was?"
"How could I forget?"
Adia found herself silently giggling, and her tenseness almost completely disappeared. But she knew that it wouldn't last, for life at the moment, seemed to crush her for everything she was worth.
Life had always seemed to mess with her.
"Well...are we just going to stand here forever?" A small voice said from behind them. It was Iris. Weirdly, it wasn't a small timid voice but rather a small powerful one.
"I guess," Olivia muttered, "It's dusk anyways, we've already had dinner Adia, but we'll give you some food in our cabin. Your hungry right?"
Adia nodded eagerly; her stomach grumbled. With all the adrenaline fading, Adia felt empty and extremely starved. Food sounded like the perfect solution the moment.
Olivier led her, hand in hand, Adia didn't trust herself to do otherwise. As they walked, she took a good look around. From her point of view, things seemed a lot clearer. As before the cabins, which were two stories, had all different colors. Purple, orange, green, teal, and white.
There cabins were set up in a circle with a shed – which may have been the kitchen – and a few tables and their colored tablecloths. The same colors as the cabins. Trees surrounded the houses and from far away, there were even more weirdly shaped structures.
But one caught her interest.
"Is that a colosseum?" Adia asked.
Oliver smiled. "Yes, it's for the fighters."
"What are fighters?"
"I'll let you know in a day's time."
Adia looked back at the colosseum, for some weird reason, she felt a connection to it. A personal connection. But that wasn't right, she had only been conscious for less than an hour.
What was going on?
Oliver led Adia over to the teal cabin, opening the door, everyone filed inside. The interior itself consisted of a stairway, which led to three rooms. On the bottom floor, there was a kitchen to the left, and a lodging area to the right.
"Welcome to the teal cabin," Olivia said proudly, "Only where the best players are placed."
"Don't believe her lad," Axel whispered to Adia, "She refuses to acknowledge our silliness."
"Oh psh, we're not hopeless."
Oliver grinned. "Can I take you up on that Olivia?"
Olivia proceeded to smack him on the arm lightly. It was all in good terms of course. Axel looked over at Adia.
"Do you want to get something to eat Adia?" Axel asked her softly. Adia smiled and let go of Oliver's hand.
"I would love that."
Leading her to the small kitchen, Axel reached up and grabbed a box of cereal, a bowl as well. He reached into the fridge, pulling out a carton of milk.
"I hope that cereal is all right," Axel said, laying out a bowl of cereal in front of Adia. The young teen nodded and begun to dive in. She was starved.
The food was delicious, even if it was some mediocre styled item, but it was worth every bite. It wasn't long before she finished, and even asked for more. Which Axel happily gave.
After about her second helping, she placed the bowl in the sink and followed Olivia upstairs. There were three rooms, one of which was most likely the boy's quarters. The second room was Iri's room, and the last room housed Olivia and herself.
In the room itself, there were two beds by the large window. To the right side of the room were two desks and to the left, a closet.
Adia went and sat down on the comfortable bed. "Thank you, Olivia, for sharing with me."
Olivia shrugged. "It only seemed practical to share with me, Iris is a little too quiet for you. I can tell."
"Is she always that quiet?"
"Not usually, but around new people she is.'
"I hope I didn't freak her out to much," Adia grimaced.
Olivia got into her covers. "Trust me you didn't. You are far from 'freaky'"
Adia gave a small nod and laid down. Laying her head on the pillow, she trusted herself to fall asleep, but sleep just wasn't coming.
Instead, her emotions were.
Frankly, she was extremely exhausted and tired, but with everything that had just happened...she didn't know what to expect. Looking at the large window, Adia felt a single tear streak down her cheek, and then another, and another.
Until she finally gave up and cried herself to sleep.
