Chapter 19

He gently released her hand, resisting the urge to kiss her and allowing reason to prevail over his emotions.

"I should have signed the divorce papers," she murmured unintentionally, exhaling deeply. The room instantly grew colder.

Suddenly, the lights went out. It appeared that the engineer had forgotten that the Boss was present. With a press of his phone, the lights were restored.

A few moments later, Nelly entered the hall, wearing an anxious expression. She stood there, observing the two, as if witnessing a dream unfolding before her eyes.

"What do you want, Nelly? You should be home by now."

Nelly had become his PRO over the past week after he elevated her position. In addition to being exceptionally beautiful, Nelly was also a well-known advertising figure.

"I was waiting for you, Sir," she said, placing her hands behind her back, struggling to contain her emotions. She found it perplexing that he would let someone who despised him rest her head on his shoulder like that. "And you promised to give me a ride."

Olivia continued to snooze on McCarthy's shoulder. He had been standing on his feet for over four hours, patiently waiting for her to wake up.

McCarthy attempted to carry her, but her bag fell. Nelly hurried to pick it up, unknowingly letting a drug container slip from her back. They left it behind as McCarthy finally carried Olivia out.

As he drove, Nelly sat beside him while Olivia slept peacefully in the backseat, resembling a child. McCarthy would occasionally turn his head to glance at Nelly, then refocus on the road.

"Nelly, what's troubling you?" he inquired, noticing her uneasiness and troubled demeanor.

"I am fine, just tired. I've been overworking myself," she replied, whether it was a lie or not.

"Do you already know her?" she countered, fixing her gaze on him.

"No, I don't," he responded, checking his address and pulling over. "According to your address, this is your house." Nelly got out of the car, bidding him farewell with a smile tinged with hidden emotions. She had intended to fake a smile, but it came out poorly.

A few miles away from Nelly's house, Olivia woke up.

"Did I say anything while I was asleep?"

"No, all you did was snore," he chuckled.

"I don't snore, seriously?"

"I know," he tried to divert her attention to something, but his attempt proved futile.

"Good, I don't snore." She rubbed her eyes and touched her stomach, then yawned. She didn't seem shy around him. "So, where are you taking me?"

"To your house."

"Where did you pick me up from?"

"Do you have a short memory?" he replied curtly, increasing the speed. "How are you going to work for me?"

She stopped rubbing her eyes, sat up straight, and leaned in. "What did you just say? I don't work for you."

"Funny enough, I bought you from Jerry."

"Without my consent?" Her anger was building, yet it couldn't find an outlet. Fear was overshadowing her anger. She was genuinely afraid of McCarthy.

"This is the second time you've refused to read documents before signing," he abruptly hit the brakes, pretending to be angry. He got out of the car, dragging her out by her hand and pinning her against the car. "Start reading documents before you sign! You can't keep doing this. Do you know what this clause entails?"

She shook her head repeatedly. "No..." Her gaze locked onto him, light reflecting off his handsome face. This time, she shook her head to prevent herself from being swayed by his appearance. "What will you do if I refuse to work for you?"

"Then you'll have to pay for everything you owe!"

"Everything?" She pondered for a moment. "Can I pay with something else?"

McCarthy laughed, thinking she was about to offer herself. Since she had faced death and miraculously survived, she had never been intimate with a man. The last time she had tried to have sex with a crush at her workplace, she couldn't. Even the kisses had tasted bitter.

"Do you think I'm that foolish? If I wanted sex, I could just stroll into any damn club, and which woman wouldn't want a piece of me?" He moved closer to her, momentarily forgetting they were outside. As he boasted about not desiring sex, his body betrayed his words. His mouth may have done a good job, but his genuine intention spoke louder.

"I will never be one of those women who would willingly sleep with an arrogant man like you. I have better people I do that for, even for free."

"Besides your boyfriendChapter 19
