Chapter 16: Throughout Death and Time

Charlotte's POV

PRESENT DAY

The next morning I was enjoying coffee in bed with Stephen when I got a call from my best friend, Scarlett, asking to meet up for lunch. Scarlett and I had met in one of my many group home placements when I was a teenager, and had remained buddies ever since. I never would have made it through that period in my life without her. Scarlett was kind, funny, and brilliant. She had gotten a full scholarship to art school, and was working at an art gallery in the fancy section of town.

"I wish I could meet her," Stephen said wistfully, and refilled my cup, "She sounds amazing. And an art gallery! I haven't been to such a thing in so long, it sounds wonderful!" I wished I could bring him with me as well. It made me wonder about the specifics of why he couldn't go.
