Chapter 27: Secret Weapon

Charlotte's POV

PRESENT DAY

That night, I was completely exhausted, mentally and physically. I'd been on the phone with contractors for hours trying to locate someone who could fix both doors immediately. I'd found one guy who charged me an exorbitant amount of money, but he did a great job, and my house was once again secure. At least, I thought it was. I'd also believed that it was pretty secure BEFORE Donovan broke in, which did nothing to steady my nerves. I was having a vodka tonic, trying my very best to relax, when Scarlett approached, carrying her laptop with a grimace. I sighed, realizing that my evening wasn't quite over yet.

"Char, I need to show you something," Scarlett said, and handed me the device, "Look, I really hope you don't mind, but I did a little research on this house today. And what I found was... surprising." I took a look at the website, and shuddered involuntarily. I had to admit to myself, I had never once questioned Stephen's version of events.
