Charlotte had mentioned that she would be working late in the archives. I knew that she was trying to clear Stephen's name, and that she sometimes lost track of time when she was researching something. But it was so late, and she hadn't come home yet. I was worried about her. I guess that's why I decided to talk to whatever or whoever was in the house. 


"Ok, I know you're there, whoever you are," I said, tentatively, "I think you're Stephen Montgomery, but I can't be sure. Anyway, listen, I think that Charlotte's in trouble. I tried calling her, and she isn't picking up. Can you help me?"
