Chapter 14: Li Chenglin

"Grandpa, are you alright?" Seeing Elder Su's condition, Su Mei couldn't help but exclaim.

Everyone else was equally shocked. Lin Feng, who had fallen to the ground, forgot to get up, and the doctor, mouth agape, stared at Elder Su in astonishment.

"I'm fine, I feel better than ever!" Elder Su shook his head and hesitantly stood up from the bed. After moving around a bit, he asked in confusion:

"How is this possible? I feel like my illness is completely cured."

"Grandpa, it was Ye Tian who saved you. He got a pill from an old traditional doctor that worked on your condition," Su Mei said excitedly, pulling Ye Tian closer.

"A miracle! This is truly a miracle! Do you have any more of those pills? Can you leave one with our hospital for research? Where is that old doctor from? I must visit him personally!" The doctor, unable to contain his excitement, rushed over and asked eagerly.

"Sorry, that was the only pill, and the old doctor is a bit peculiar. I'm afraid even I can't find him now," Ye Tian responded. He hadn't expected the Life-Extending Pill to have such a potent effect and couldn't help but glance mockingly at Lin Feng: "How about that? Was my 'sorcery' useful?"

Lin Feng, who had confidently dismissed traditional Chinese medicine as sorcery just moments ago, wished he could disappear into the ground. He glared at Ye Tian and said to Elder Su:

"Old master, I have some matters to attend to at home. Since you're fine, I'll take my leave!"

With that, Lin Feng didn't wait for a response and rushed out. He couldn't bear to stay any longer under these circumstances.

"Xuemei, go and handle my discharge papers. This hospital is no place for people."

After sending the disappointed doctor away, Elder Su instructed Su Mei's mother.

"How can we do that? What if your condition flares up again!" Su Mei's mother immediately shook her head, and Su Mei also advised: "Grandpa, let's stay in the hospital a bit longer for observation."

"What's there to observe!" Elder Su's stubbornness flared up as he retorted: "In my youth, I was someone of influence. I can't die a cowardly death in a hospital. Besides, I know my own body best, right, Ye Tian?"

The Life-Extending Pill's effect was to prolong life by one year with formidable results. Unless affected by external factors like severe injury or deprivation, no illness would affect the patient during that year. So, Ye Tian wasn't worried and, seeing Elder Su's intimidating look, decided to agree:

"Old master is right. Staying in this hospital is frustrating and not beneficial for your health. Besides, with your current condition, not only can you go home, but having a drink shouldn't be a problem either."

Hearing this, Su Mei and her mother glared at Ye Tian, but Elder Su's eyes brightened. He patted Ye Tian's shoulder and laughed heartily:

"Good, I accept you as my grandson-in-law! You're to my taste. Today, we'll drink together. Don't even think about stopping us, my life was saved by Ye Tian. What's wrong with having a drink? Besides, he's here!"

Feeling helpless, Li Xuemei went to arrange for Elder Su's discharge, unable to scold Ye Tian since it was their first meeting and he had saved Elder Su.

Su Mei, however, had no such reservations. After failing to dissuade her grandfather, she unleashed her anger on Ye Tian, pinching him continuously and causing him much pain.

"Is this your home? I've heard about the three great families of Tiandu Province before. Don't tell me you're the Su family?" Finally, in the back seat of the car, Ye Tian asked Su Mei in astonishment as he looked at the mansion before them.

Though it wasn't in the city center, owning such a vast estate in the city was extraordinary. It made Ye Tian recall rumors he'd heard during his school days.

Tiandu Province had three great families: Su, Lu, and Liang. They were said to be the most powerful clans in the province, commanding respect from both the lawful and the underworld.

But Ye Tian had always considered such descriptions to be exaggerations from novels and never took them seriously.

"Guess!" Su Mei responded with a playful smile that instantly brightened the world, making Ye Tian forget all his questions.

Seeing Ye Tian staring dumbfoundedly at her, Su Mei couldn't help but laugh. As the car stopped at the entrance, she gently touched Ye Tian's arm and said softly, "Our family is quite large, so it's noisy with many people. Some might trouble you, but just ignore them."

"Don't worry, I'll be careful!" Ye Tian nodded with a smile, reassuring Su Mei.

"Alright, I'm going to change. I'll have my cousin keep you company for now." Su Mei called out to a group of people surrounding Elder Su: "Li Chenglin, come here!"

"Cousin, what do you need?"

Su Mei's cousin, who appeared to be only sixteen or seventeen, ran over eagerly. His obsequious manner suggested he was often bossed around by Su Mei.

"Keep my brother-in-law company in the living room. I'm going to change."

"Brother-in-law?" Li Chenglin looked at Ye Tian in surprise, then confidently assured: "Don't worry, cousin, I'll take good care of brother-in-law and ensure he feels thoroughly looked after."

"Enough with the chatter! Just talk amongst yourselves, I'll be right back!" Su Mei rolled her eyes and walked toward the house.

Once Su Mei left, Li Chenglin straightened up, looking at Ye Tian curiously:

"So you're my brother-in-law. You don't look anything special. How did my sister fall for you? Do you have some secret techniques for wooing women? She's usually so indifferent to men."

Li Chenglin was obviously unaware that Ye Tian had saved Elder Su and asked out of curiosity.

"That's my little secret. How could I share it with others!" Ye Tian laughed and walked towards the living room.

He didn't have any secret techniques; it wasn't like he could say he was brought in as a shield after a night of frivolity, but at least he had some professional integrity.

"Come on! You can't just watch your little brother-in-law be single, right? Share some tips!" Li Chenglin followed, pleading and flattering, continuously probing.

"Congratulations, you've successfully sown the seeds of romance and earned ten points of romance!"

Really? A hundred romance points collected!
