Matilda jumped up, spinning around. She intensely observed the man, realizing he was a stranger. “Are you affiliated with the man in black?” she asked, forming a serious, even menacing demeanor.
“What, no!” The man’s disgruntled tone was clear. “I work for myself. Sometimes, if I like you enough, I do a job.” He sneered. The man raised the poker, and quickly slammed it in Matilda’s direction.
The poker hit Matilda in the side. She let out a sharp yelp, nearly dropping to the floor.
The man wielded back again
Matilda gathered herself, and dodged the next blow, by grabbing onto the balcony railing. She quickly pulled herself aside, then turned around away from him. “I am not afraid, you know.” She walked along side the rail not taking her eyes off him. She winced with every move.
The man clapped. ”Neat little trick, but it is not going to save you. The man assumed a position to attack her again.
